Yesterday, Capcom and Microsoft stupified gamers with Monster Hunter for the 360, and perhaps the strangest of all, Gears of War cameo in Lost Planet 2.
As the announcement notes, Marcus and his partner Dom, the main Gears in Epic's highly-successful cover shooter, will be appearing in the Xbox 360 version of LP2, likely as alternate skins -- sorta like Joker in Arkham Asylum. At least the trailer seems to suggest they'll come with their own arsenal, and we hope that slo-mo punching makes it in too.
Epic's Cliff Bleszinski (better known as "CliffyB") commented on how the hell this bizarre yet unbelievably badass crossover came to be. It's way simpler than you'd imagine:
"They [Capcom] contacted us about the cameo and we said 'heck yeah. We're mutual fans of each other's work and crossovers are darned cool so we sent over the Marcus and Dom models for implementation.
"I can't speak about the controls for LP2. Anything else about how it's accessed or used in game remains to be revealed. I'll leave that to Capcom's capable hands."
So basically, even if we're seeing Marcus and Dom, how they play may have a totally different feel from Gears. Well, time will tell, but at least we know the remarkably anticlimactic story behind the crossover.
