Many folks expect the next gaming video card from ATI to be the HD 5830. This would make sense, as so far the HD 5000 series has expanded in almost the exactly the same way as the HD 4000 series did last year.
According to the website Digitimes, there has been a small set back in the production of the HD 5830. Citing unnamed sources, it is claimed that the problem only turned up during the final validation stages of the new reference design cards. This setup back will be responsible for a week or two delay -- apparently, this means the the HD 5830 will be coming in February.
If a HD 5830 does indeed come out anytime soon, we'll certainly review it for you. The HD 4830 was a somewhat-limited production video card that offered OC'd potential to rival the HD 4870, for a significantly less price. So hopefully that'll bode well for the HD 5830. Other early rumours have suggested the HD 5830 will offer about the performance of a HD 4890.
Bearing anything completely surprising, Nvidia will continue to counter this new product with the GTS 250, featuring their G92 GPU which has been representing their mid-range for a few years now.
