Risen, in our humble opinion, is one of the finest RPGs we've ever played. However, many console gamers were left with a bad impression, as the game's European release on the Xbox 360 -- handled by an outside studio -- was poor, to say the least, compared to its PC brother. Aside from a load of gameplay-hindering bugs, the graphics were just plain shot. Have a look at this comparison sample from VideoGamesZone.de (click to enlarge):
Certainly, this was beyond the usual differences between PC and console games, so much so it marked the first time in history PC gamers felt bad for console gamers (we kid).
In any case, the game has been announced for a February North American launch on the 360, and a PR spokesperson has assured us "the North American Xbox release has graphic upgrades and some other fixes over the European release." With the announcement comes a new set of screenshots, and while they're definitely a downgrade over the PC version, it's not too bad compared to the Euro.
