Personal favourite digital distribution site Good Old Games (GOG) is currently hosting two lovely holiday specials, the latest of which discounts pretty much the entire 170+ PC game catalogue.
If you're new to GOG, it's a service dedicated to "classic" PC titles, though they're pretty loose with the definition and have some games as new as 2006. Most come with extras like soundtracks, wallpapers and more, are DRM-free, and are made to work with Windows XP and Vista (7 is pending, but most work fine so far).
The first is a Tex Murphy promo. For those new to the series, they're classic point and click detective-style adventures with some great lines, and are regarded as some of the best of their kind. From now until December 24, the first two titles -- Martian Memorandum and Mean Streets -- are completely free. And for those that've already bought the pack, GOG has an "alternate offer" for you. See here for all details.
Next is the big one: all GOG titles excepting the December releases (Myst, Riven, UFO: Aftershock, The Manhole, and Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord) are 25-40% off ($3.59- $7.49) until January 3 -- this includes a grand total of 171 games. They're all stars in our hearts, but check out the attached ones at the top of the article for what we'd list as the highlights. You can head here to cash in.
Here's to a very merry season for gamers everywhere.
