Claims WoW ruined his life & sued major game corporations, now offering interviews
So there's this guy named Erik Estavillo who claims to have been gaming avidly for two years (lawl), and he's been gaining a lot of Internet fame lately. Why?
Said guy sued or is attempting to sue Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, and Activision Blizzard, claiming these game companies are responsible for his various conditions: OCD, Agoraphobia, Panic Disorder, depression and Crohn's Disease.
Currently, his lawsuit against Sony has failed, and his appeals have so far been turned down (doesn't mean he stopped trying), while the Nintendo and Microsoft cases have yet to be resolved. With Microsoft's case, Estavillo has also subpoenaed Bill Gates to show up in court next spring.
As for Activision Blizzard, the misguided lad states that will be the last lawsuit he ever files. Details on that specify the case pertains to World of Warcraft, which Estavillo claims has basically ruined his life.
Now it looks like Estaville, despite all his alleged pain and suffering, is really reveling in the attention. He has given interviews to a couple smaller game sites and isn't shy about accepting more. He recently put up a website where you can find information on his cases, hear his interviews, ask his advice, post sporadic gaming news and reviews, and a Felicia Day (The Guild) mini-shrine. In fact, he's even included some articles about his failed lawsuits posted on bigger sites.
And gamers still wonder why the rest of the world doesn't take us seriously. But hey, there's no shame in checking the guy's site or anything. He seems pretty open to receiving comments and feedback, so feel free to leave your own. The message board has seven users so far, including Erik himself.
Thanks for the tip, 'Alex.'

I for one love games some might say that im addicted but so what I would rather be home playing drinking a beer or 2 then out in the street getting in trouble and doing drugs
There just isn't enough to justify the amount of fail this has produced.
Video games cannot cause various conditions. Look, I have no idea what causes the various learning disabilities (if I did, then I would know how I wound up with Asperger's Syndrome), but I can say for certainty that video games is not one of them. If anything, video games can help improve those with said disabilities.
Take me for example. Starting me off on video games @ age 6 was a smart call by my Mom because I had a poor hand-eye coordination. That improved after awhile; the various RPG's allowed me to develop strategies to beat said games, which carried over to reality in the sense that I use strategies for everyday problems and long term goals.
Long story short: video games don't cause disabilities, they can help treat those who already had those disabilities.
No wonder people think they can sue game companies for whatever they want, seriously people should read ToS agreements and other agreements. This stuff really irks me, especially when it comes down to the client's fault yet they aren't adult enough to admit it

Same with this guy trying to sue. I mean, wow, maybe he read the articles of the people who went postal over Halo, or starved themselves to death playing WoW and/or Everquest, and thought he could cash in. What he's admitting to is "I so totally gave in to being a massive gaming-addict, with no self responsibility whatsoever, and to continue the same pattern of a total lack of self responsibility, I now expect you to not just furnish my games, but also pay my bills".
But hey, why not, we are after all living in a society where prison inmates are living it up in luxury resorts known as "prison" while the rest of us hard-working stiffs who keep the wheels greased are losing our houses and ending up on the streets... everything else is backwards... why not gaming-related lawsuits, heh.
PS - The only thing I could possibly AGREE on suing said gaming companies for, is not having enough administrators in the multiplayer communities of games to keep control of trolls, haters, griefers, and people who get a rush/high off of badmouthing anybody they come across and wanting to speak like their vocabulary only contains explicit three and four letter words. As it has been seen in the past, that some situations can *start* in an online community/game and finally boil over into real-life due to the fact there's nobody to nip it in the bud before it escalates out of control.
