Apparently when Capcom was making Lost Planet 2, they had this mentality of bigger being better. Over the course of 2009, more E.D.N. III monsters were revealed, and today we've got a ton of screenshots showcasing three bosses: Akrid X, Gordiant, and Red Eye.
The Akrid X is designed to have a more insectoid appearance and, if you haven't noticed, is really freaking huge. It's a fire-based creature, as screenshots show, and has the ability to spit fire from its mandibles. Based on its appearance, we know it's one of the more agile bosses and sports a protective, spiney exoskeleton. Wait, did we forget to mention it can set you on fire? Better prepare those Vital Suits.

If you played the co-op demo, then you may be familiar with this next boss. The Gordiant is a massive salamandar-inspired creature with an awful attitude. Unlike X, it's body is visibly softer and coated in slime, like any true amphibian. But don't let that fool you -- this guy isn't going down easily. Armed with regenerative powers, electroshock abilities, a mean stomp, and tongues (yes, plural) that can be swung from its gaping mouth, the Gordiant can wipe out your team in any number of ways. It's not the fastest boss in the game though, so make sure you can run and shoot at the same time. Then again, you could try jumping into the beast and killing it from the inside.

Taking the cake for heft is the Red Eye boss (top). Rumors suggest there may be an even bigger E.D.N. III monster out there, but this blind sand whale-worm-thing has to be second best (biggest). While it is visually impaired like so many burrowing animals, this Akrid relies on echolocation to get your positions so running around will be like screaming, "Here I am, come eat me!" And just to keep you from standing in once place, it'll occasionally shake the ground with its own weight, giving you and your team a good jolt. Preview reports have also revealed that you'll have a chance to take on two Red Eyes at once. Ew.

While no specific release date has been given, Lost Planet 2 will be out some time this winter, or so Capcom has said. And going along with the strange pre-order incentives tradition, the sequel's GameStop bonus is Wesker of Resident Evil fame; the first game awarded gamers who pre-ordered with Dead Rising's Frank West, who ran around the snow-covered terrain in his underwear.
Besides, I've always liked fighting giant bosses...not to mention Big Buddha from Ninja Gaiden 2, hee hee...
