Mass Effect 50% off from Steam this weekend Image 1

If you have any extra cash not already invested in the reasonably-priced Mass Effect 2 CE, why not spread the love by buying the original game for a friend at a discounted price?  Starting today, you can buy Mass Effect from Steam for $10.00 USD.

Haven't played the game yet?  Here's a brief refresher: Mass Effect is a sci-fi action RPG that lets you take on the role of Commander Shepard (or your own customized avatar) to embark on an interplanetary mission to battle against an ancient threat.  Helping you out are two partner characters of your choice that wield unique skills to assist with your missions.  Aside from a rather unique group of allies, you've also got some high-powered firearms and Biotic skills (like the Force in Star Wars).

Mass Effect on PC differs from its console counterpart in that it has some improved features and an all-new HUD made especially for PC play.  The Steam edition also includes the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC at no extra charge.  All this for ten bucks is a pretty good deal for one of 2007's most highly regarded games.

That's awesome! $10 for Mass Effect is an absolute steal. I've already played it to death and gotten every achievement for it on the 360 version, but I'm gonna check out the system req's and maybe buy it off Steam as well.

The only downside to the PC version is the annoyance of installing the DLC.

However, better load times, better textures, better color, etc. And those are just the visual pros.

    wow that's the "Only" annoyance?

Love this game and although I could grab it for that much now, I am glad that I bought it earlier. Just now need to pry myself off Borderlands and finish ME in order to grab ME2

I bought the game over the 50% off weekend, and I'm addicted. And I don't even like RPGs with real time combat, or 1st person perspective RPGs, or dialog systems that determine alignment values. Somehow all those elements work really well in ME, where Elder Scrolls didn't appeal to me.

First person? You sure it was Mass Effect you bought?

I'm like you though, very picky with my RPGs. The PC renditions of Baldur's Gate I hated for example, but couldn't get enough of Dark Alliance (even further, I didn't like the sequel). Didn't like Diablo, loved Sacred, etc. No idea why really.

Bought it retail a while ago, and for some reasons, it didn't work well with my processor, and others had the same problem, which is why I held back, and I regret doing so.
