I've never played this game, and it sounds interesting, lot's of people say it's good... but silver, gold, platinum... etc etc etc. I have no clue which one I should try first, and which one would be the best for me to try first. Which one do you guys recommend for a beginner player to this pokemon game series thingy?

Also, is it even appropriate for an 19 year old to be playing pokemon? D: Will I be called a pedophile for playing it? ANSWERS PLEASE! I'm tired of trying to figure out this game.

MrGrimm, any game in the series will be OK for starting. However, I'd recommend an older one first, because if you like it and want to play more, it could be a little rough going BACK in graphics and overall improvements.

Also, there was a thing in the news a few months back about a state in the USA that said there was NO REASON for anyone above like 10 to be playing Animal Crossing. Anyone that did was apparently a pedophile... Ridiculous, IMO. Remember, the 'E' rating means EVERYONE. Only people that haven't played Pokemon will think it's weird for you to play.

pokefreak18: Different Pokemon can in fact follow you around in HeartGold and SoulSilver.

Bill Gates03: My Magikarp's Splash is better than yours.

Don't worry about starting with a remake, grab a copy of Pokemon Platinum and you'll be all set.

For us older gamers (I'm in my 30s and play Pokemon with my kids) Pokemon can be a bit easier to swallow if you focus on the stats and attack combos rather than on the cuteness of the Pokemon (Lickylicky?!? Please! My Swampert will beat it bloody) it's actually a deep strategy game with a lot of multiplayer activity.

I blather a bit about this kind of stuff in more detail in my Pokemon Platinum review so you can head to that if you're curious.

Start with LeafGreen/FireRed I say..remakes of the originals..which were best in my opinion. After that it just got convoluted..less exciting as time went on.

I think these games are going to be great remakes. I LOVE the following-pokemon feature.

Really now GameFreak (do they even make the Pokemon games anymore?), can't we come up with a new formula other than Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Diamond/Pearl, followed by Red/Blue Remake and now another remake? Here's an amazing idea! Make a friggen console game! How long have Pokemon fans waited for a TRUE Pokemon RPG on N64, GameCube and Wii? I think it's pathetic that they've really stuck with the same formula for more than 12 years and are STILL selling more games than there is money in the world.
