Cammy as Harley Quinn, anyone?
If like myself you've been enjoying the hell out of Street Fighter IV on the PC this past week or two, you'll be happy to know a nice (Capcom-approved) modding community for the game has formed, and here today is a look at the most pleasing fruits of its labour, to help you get the most out of the title.
Street Fighter fansite Shoryuken, always with their ear to the ground, appears to be the hub for mods, so head there for all relevant info, to check out everything on offer now and in the future, and also for resources on doing your own work. Game Vixen Zone has some stuff up, too (all links are at the bottom of this article). Update: the mods have grown to several hundred in size; to better organize it all, the community has moved to a wiki; the link is at the bottom of this article.
Probably the lesser exciting of the two main sections of the modding community, but still very fun and hilarious, is the moveset swap mods. Pretty simple stuff: take one character's moves and swap them for another. Here's one of our favourites, what we like to call, "Chun-Balrog":
Note we strongly advise against using these online, not only for ethical reasons, but also because you will be booted off at some point, hurting the experience for all.
Next up is sure to get you more for your money: character skins. These give you virtually limitless possibilities in altering the appearance of a given character, to the point where you can even bring in characters from other Street Fighter games (like Alpha 3's Juli or III's Dudley), ones that've only been featured in other Street Fighter works (Decapre), or some from other games or forms of entertainment (God of War's Kratos, Shinobi's...Shinobi, wrestling's Hollywood Hulk Hogan, martial artist Bruce Lee, etc). A lot aren't so great, at least at this point, but some are damned impressive. You can check out our favourites in the gallery below, and another two in this video:
Note if using these online, the other player won't see the changes (though some say you can if they have the requisite applications installed, too); also be sure to backup all appropriate files beforehand.
Enjoy!
