Microsoft drops IE8 'OMGIGP' ad following complaints

"We make a point of listening to our customers"

If you haven't caught it, Microsoft recently put out an advertisement for the latest edition of Internet Explorer, featuring none other than Superman actor Dean Cain, and directed by comedian and writer Bobcat Goldthwait. The ad, one in a series of similar productions, is now notorious for its 'graphic content'.

Following complaints, Microsoft has pulled it, stating, "while much of the feedback to this particular piece of creative was positive, some of our customers found it offensive, so we have removed it. We make a point of listening to our customers."

Below is the advertisement in question.

Our feeling: it's hilarious. And as a note to Microsoft: while it's good you listen to your customers, what about the ones that find this being pulled absurd? Just a thought, of course -- let us know yours.

I tend to have an off-color sense of humor, but even I find this ad to be in very poor taste.

Yes, even if it was the man puking.

I freaking loved it. The woman puking is my feeling for IE though.

The thing is , by having the ad pulled, it generates far more press and exposure for the ad then it would have if it wasn't pulled.

They might have planned to pull it from the get-go.

Why would they even let that ad on TV in the first place? Everytime I watch Dirty Jobs and Mike Rowe pukes, they blur that out, so you think someone along the lines would have said something about that.

I think kspiess is right, it was probably a marketing ploy to get the add more exposure.

It might be, but I've just downloaded Internet Explorer 8 and now I can't even get into my University website's administration features.

Well, I still found this in bad taste and I have a very very weird sense of humor.

Anything for the money, eh? Microsoft morality is an oxymoron, for sure, for sure, and gag me with a spoon. Listen to their customers? I can't remember the last time I chose to be a customer of Microsoft. They're always ramming their crap down my throats. Vomiting at Microsoft seems just too appropriate.
