EA Mobile has put Mass Effect Galaxy, previously named Mass Effect: Jacob's Story, up for sale on the iPhone App store.

The brief, $4.99 game is a sort of adventure top-down shooter, from the looks of it. You play as Jacob Taylor, a soldier with some scores to settle. The game seems light on dialogue, on heavy on some quick bursts of action. The art style looks like it took queues from kid's television animations.

The events of the game are a minor bridge between Mass Effect and the upcoming Mass Effect 2.  Galaxy will introduce a new character that will play a prominent role in Mass Effect 2 -- possibly the mysterious assassin Thane we keep hearing about. And as an added bonus for Mass Effect fans, apparently there is some sort of Achievement in Mass Effect 2 that wil be unlocked for people who completed Mass Effect Galaxy.
