For those of you not familiar with it, the 80 PLUS is a incentive program funded by electric utilities to promote energy efficient power supplies with the goal of achieving a minimum of 80% efficiency at 50% of the power supply's rated output. More efficient units are awarded bronze, silver and gold ratings. In order to achieve a gold rating, a power supply must maintain a minimum 90% efficiency under a typical (50%) load.
Cooler Master is releasing an updated version of it UCP 900W PSU (Part Number RS-900-AAAA-A4) that has achieved 80 PLUS Gold certification with an typical efficiency of 90.05%. Overall, the UCP 900W has an average efficiency of 88.24%. This is Cooler Master's first unit to achieve the Gold level, a goal only 3% of the power supplies tested by the Electric Power Research Institute manage to achieve and Cooler Master plans to have the UCP 900W 80 Plus Gold PSU on display this week at Computex.
