Zombies, ice planets, and Chris Redfield's old haircut make a comeback
Last week, Capcom held their CAPTIVATE 09 event at the Monte Carlo in Monaco, showing off an obsene amount of footage and other assets for a wide range of upcoming titles. There's so much content that we've split some of the highlights into several sections for you. Here's part two of our CAPTIVATE 09 assets pack, featuring Dead Rising 2, Lost Planet 2, and the Wii Resident Evil games.
As some of you may already know, the new Dead Rising will feature a guy named "Chuck," who vaguely resembles you-know-who if you squint a little. Developed by Blue Castle Games, Dead Rising 2 takes place several years after the Wilamette incident, and zombie outbreaks continue to plague our hero even after Frank West managed to save the States once before.
Follow the former national Motocross champion and now single parent Chuck Greene through Fortune City (coughLasVegascough) as he battles countless zombies, employing various everyday objects as weapons against the infected horde. Will his young daughter Katey have a role in this undead madness? We shall see. She doesn't make an appearance in the new trailer, but at least we get to see how resourceful Chuck is.
Next up, we have Lost Planet 2, first announced via Xbox LIVE with a then-exclusive trailer. Now Capcom has tossed out a handful of gorgeous concept art that evoke memories of Shadow of the Colossus, along with quite a few screens. It's quite the sampler platter, complete with a new trailer from CAPTIVATE 09.
Just to refresh your memories, Lost Planet 2 will take place 10 years after the events of its predecessor. The planet's ice has begun to melt, exposing new environments for exploration as customisable snow pirates, making the sequel a truly unique experience for each gamer. Players can also go through Lost Planet 2 with friends with the game's co-op multiplayer feature, with support for up to four players online.
Take a breath, we're still going. Next, we have Resident Evil Archives for the Wii, a remake of the 2002 GameCube remake of the first Resident Evil on PlayStation. Jill and Chris return, and we get to see more of Wesker before he turns into a superhuman virus-junkie. You'd better get comfortable too if this is your first time, because there are ten different endings to check out.
As for the franchise's infamous clunky controls? Apparently, they are making a comeback as well, along with Chris' delightful haircut.
Staying in the family of Resident Evil, we've got more screens and a trailer for the upcoming Wii exclusive Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. In Darkside Chronicles, players revisit Leon and Jill and their fun-filled adventure in Raccoon City. Capcom also brings back co-op multiplayer, adding in an "Evade" feature for assisting your partner. Guess Leon's going to show Chris he doesn't need steroids to kick zombie ass.
