I got somethin' for that, it goes bla-ka-ka-kat

Young student tries to trade handgun for PSP Image 1

A young student of a middle school in Tacoma, Washington took a handgun from his father's gun collection in an attempt to trade it for a PlayStation Portable today, reports say.

The gun wasn't loaded, but the boy was carrying ammunition as well. After he was found with the weapon and had it confiscated, the boy's father told police a second gun was missing, too, prompting a lockdown of the school for several hours.

The boy is currently in juvenile detention.

Kombo points out a "Guns for Games" program might actually be beneficial in light of this, as those Gun Buyback programs have been the last few years -- in fact, some have gone so well police departments, like the one in Oakland, California, have had to put up hundreds of thousands of dollars in IOUs to the public. Who loves America? We do!

Replace the triggers with analog sticks, and that would be the coolest PSP on the planet

    I am though!
Hippie? Hmm. Didn't realize disliking school shootings and such was the only requirement for hippiedom. Thank you for educating me -- I do like to remain informed!

Just because some crazy kid get a hold of a handgun, means we shouldn't be allowed to have guns at all? That's like saying you're going to kill an entire heard of Cows simply because one of them is mean.

Never said you shouldn't be allowed to have them.
And there's far more than one that enter into situations like this, and many more than that which die because of it. Even one person dying is too much, really..I think you'd agree if it was your child/loved one that was the victim.
But I think violence is blind -- if we accept one "kind" of it into society, we accept all kinds of it. We see this with children -- if you hit them out of discipline, they will hit others (and you) regardless of circumstance. Don't think there's any real difference between that and the teenager here, or adults in gangs, say, as related to those who claim guns provide security.
Why do I feel safer in places where guns are not readily available?

I was hit out of discipline, and I was smarter, more mature, and more handsome looking, as well as faster, and much cooler than my peers. Though, as I aged, and my parents found no reason to teach me discipline, I started to get uglier. And slower. And less cool...

Criminals will ALWAYS find a way to get guns. Taking them away from responsible citizens doesn't prevent gun crime. Knife crime probably goes way up though........hmmmm I wonder......will have to look that up LMAO

Edit: I don't mean kids should be allowed guns of course......that's just a little bit much.

Almost no gun crime up here in Canada.

Yeah that's an obvious. I personally think it has a lot to do with the drug and immigrant trafficking. I read the other day they found nearly a dozen illegal immigrants shot dead by a suspected coyote (people smuggler) who isn't a US citizen.....that's not really fair for the average person to be lumped into that category when these statistics are being generated.

Does Canada even have any drug problems?? Can't be anything serious.....it's too damn cold to want drugs I bet! LMAO US has too many illegal black market shit going on in it's borders that if stopped would lower the crime rates. 3 things I would focus on eliminating would be gangs, drugs, and human trafficking. Even if it took making most of them legal. LMAO
