The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 is now available for Apple highest end desktop system, the Mac Pro. Calling it both “award winning” and the “most advanced professional graphics card” NVIDIA says the Quadro FX 4800 allows users to continue to push the boundaries of realism and performance in the architecture, content creation, science and medicine markets.
“Some of the world’s most challenging visual computing problems are solved on the Mac platform,” said Jeff Brown, general manager, Professional Solutions, NVIDIA. “The Quadro FX 4800 provides the power and speed to meet these demanding requirements.”

The Quadro FX 4800 has a MSRP of $1,799 USD and will be available in May through the Apple Store, select Apple retailers, and NVIDIA partners such as PNY, Leadtech, and Elsa.
If you happen to be in the Las Vegas area, the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 is on display until March 23rd in the lower South Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Does that show you the difference for the professional level? It costs that much for a reason.
It costs that much because workstation cards are based on a completely different client structure compared to consumers. It's not like they reinvented the wheel for the 4800, from what I had heard in the past it was based off of the 260.
