    with that price you could get 3 nvidias GTX295's, which would pack more power for sure. and anyways, are these really THAT good?

    Indeed it's quite a change but a softmod actually reverts that difference quite a bit, such reason is why people softmod ati cards to firegl cards and nvidia cards to quadro cards.

    It costs that much because workstation cards are based on a completely different client structure compared to consumers. It's not like they reinvented the wheel for the 4800, from what I had heard in the past it was based off of the 260.
