Gigabyte releases HD 4890 graphics card

With today's launch of the ATI HD 4890 graphics cards, Gigabyte has announced its GV-R489-1GH-B video card, which becomes the single-GPU Radeon flagship model in its product lineup. Based on the standard HD 4890 design, the GV-R489-1GH-B features the ATI TeraScale graphics engine with over one teraFlops of GPU processing power. The RV790 GPU has nearly one billion transistors and 800 stream processors for some serious processing muscle.

The 1GB GDDR5 memory on the GV-R489-1GH-B HD 4890 card provides twice the data per pin of GDDR3 memory at the same clock speeds. In addition the GV-R489-1GH-B provides Dynamic Geometry Acceleration, Quad mode ATI CrossFireX multi-GPU support and UVD 2 for encoding processing-intensive content for 1080p HDTV and HD video with additional support for dynamic contrast and enhanced DVD upscaling. That translates into it being able to provide full Blu-ray functionality with dual-stream, picture in picture (PIP) capabilities and one-cable HDMI connectivity. With ATI's PowerPlay technology, the GV-R489-1GH-B can maximize performance per watt by delivering high performance during demanding applications such as gaming and reduce power requirements at idle or in low demand 2D applications.
