HD 4890 cards based on the latest RV790 core
PowerColor today announced the latest in the 4800 series graphics cards with the release of two HD 4890 videocards.
First up is the standard version of the HD 4890 based on the ATI reference design. The new RV790 GPU can be described as similar to the HD 4870 series, only different and better, if that makes any sense. Using the same 800 stream processors, the 4890 offers higher standard clock speeds of 850MHz (GPU) and 975MHz (memory). Instead of waiting several weeks after the initial release, as is typical, PowerColor is also offering an overclocked version as well. The PLUS HD 4890 increases the core clock speed to 900MHz and bumps the memory speed to 1000MHz.
Both versions of the PowerColor HD 4890 come with 1GB GDDR5 memory and offer 3.9Gbs data rate on the standard version and 4.0Gbs on the PLUS model. Other standard features include CrossFireX, DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1 support using a PCI-Express 2.0 interface. PowerColor has priced the cards at US$259 for the standard HD 4890 and US$269 for the PLUS HD 4890 with immediate availability.
