Classic real-time tactical game Syndicate resurrected

Fans of the classic real-time tactical game Syndicate, similar titles like Shadowrun, and even Fable should be happy to know Electronic Arts, the game's original publisher is bringing the series back according to "sources", with developer Starbreeze (The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, The Darkness) at the helm. They've been noted to be working on Project Redlime under EA since early last year, slated for PC, Xbox 360 and PC, and word has it this is that game.

Johan Kristiansson, CEO of Starbreeze, said in February 2008, "We're already deep in development on Project RedLime and the team at EA is giving us the time we need to perfect our vision. We're excited to bring a new perspective and gameplay innovation to this beloved fiction."

Developer of the 90s game Bullfrog Productions has since been acquired by EA, with at least some if its team working at other studios. As some know, famed Fable designer Peter Molyneux co-founded the studio and worked on the game back when; there's no word whether he will be collaborating with Starbreeze on this one or not, though he's said in the past he "really would love to redo a version of Syndicate, [it] was probably one of my favorites," so one can hope.

Syndicate and its 3D sequel Syndicate Wars were wicked twists on the dystopian premise, putting you in charge of a militant global corporation instead of fighting it. You played a dirty game of leading cyborg agents around a cyberpunk universe, rescuing allies and offing rival syndicate executives, all apart of a new corporate-dominated world. In short, it ruled.
