Neverwinter is a free-to-play MMORPG set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting of Dungeons & Dragons. The titular city (located on the northwestern Sword Coast of Faerûn) was previously featured in Bioware's Neverwinter Nights series, though Neverwinter the MMO was made by a different developer.
The MMORPG is set a century after the events of NWN2, where the city of Neverwinter itself is still in the process of being rebuilt after nearly being destroyed by a cataclysmic volcanic eruption. Players create their own adventurer from one of seven different AD&D classes and defend the fallen city from an undead invasion lead by the mysterious Lich Queen Valindra. The journey will take players into Neverwinter and the Neverwinter Woods.
The game systems and mechanics are based on a modified version of the fourth edition AD&D ruleset; player characters for example can perform special actions in combat by accumulating action points. Players can adventure on their own or in parties with up to four others. In addition to experiencing the main storyline, players can create their own stories and quests through the "Foundry" system.
Neverwinter is available for both PC and Xbox One; the console release features all the content of the PC version including the Tyranny of Dragons and Scourge Warlock expansions. An Xbox Live subscription is required for online multiplayer.
