Nancy Drew: Curse of Blackmoor Manor review
A really good game!
The graphics were really good in this one; nothing like the graphics in games like Myst III Exile or Crystal Key 2, etc., but real enough. The characters were likable, and the house itself was beautiful. I would have loved to live there were it a real place. The designs are so intricate. If you're someone who loves mystery in history, then this game is for you, as the whole game is about the history of the Penvellyns and how their heritage led up until the present. It was also really cool to see Latin written everywhere. The bad:
The only "bad" would be that the ending wasn't challenging or drawn out at all, and that the puzzles were really hard...but it wasn't horrible, so the bad should hardly count.Summary:
I gave the game a 4.9 only because I didn't like the ending much, but it wasn't horrible, so what am I complaining about?
I think that "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor" is one of the best (possibly even THE best) Nancy Drew games created yet. The puzzles were very challenging but I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I figured them out. The history of the Penvellyns was very interesting, and made me wish my family was like that. I don't think we can hardly date our ancestors back before the late 1880s, whereas in Blackmoor, the Penvellyns could date theirs back to the 1400s.
Also, the decorations in the house were very appealing. And so were the characters. Some were irritating, but for the most part, they always had you interested and surprised.
I think the best part about the game was the story line. It was very well thought out, and I thought it was very genius that Her Interactive made the whole house into some sort of puzzle/fun house. Also, the scary things that happened (this is probably the scariest game) kept me on edge, but it was so fun. You never could guess what would happen next. And though the ending was disappointing in length and task, it was still very surprising (who the culprit is). Overall, I'd say this game is my favorite, and definitely worth the buy (if you don't scare easy and if you're up to a huge challenge!).
