With over 2500 ft·lbf (3.5 kJ) of energy, created with a 440 gr (29 g) bullet traveling at 1650 ft/s (503 m/s), it is claimed to be the most powerful handgun cartridge commercially manufactured, and provides power similar to long established wildcat cartridges such as the .375 JDJ and pistol loadings of the .45-70 Government.[4][5][6]
The intended design for this cartridge is for big game hunting and wilderness protection.
Bullet weights available for this cartridge, range from a 265 grain (17 g) jacketed hollow point, to a 700 grain (45 g) cast lead bullet. Moderate velocity, heavy bullet loads from the .500 S&W Magnum are similar in performance to the black powder .50-70 Government[3].
The recoil of this cartridge is quite strong. Smith & Wesson has incorporated design features into their Smith & Wesson Model 500, including a muzzle brake, recoil reducing rubber grips, and considerable weight to help mitigate the recoil.[7]
7.62 mm
There are many cartridges which use 7.62 mm caliber bullets. The measurement equals 0.30 inches. Historically, this class of cartridge was commonly known as .30 caliber, and was most commonly used for indicating a class of full power military Main Battle Rifle (MBR) cartridges.
7.62 mm refers to the diameter of the lands in the barrel (see article on rifling for description of lands). The actual bullet caliber is normally .308 in (7.82 mm), although Soviet weapons commonly use a .311 in (7.91 mm) bullet, as do older British (.303 British) and Japanese cartridges.

I am your typical 17 year old guy. I sleep too late, I eat too much and I like to do stuff my parents hate.
Some of my hobbies include gaming, shooting, and training for the Marine Corps.
I have two sisters who I can usually get along with. I have a Dad who plays Rainbow six Vegas with me [we both love that game to death], my mom stays at home and is my school teacher. I am home schooled and working on completing 11th and 12th grades this year. I intend on joining the Marine Corps in 2009.
I tend to favor the right side of politics, I.E. Conservative. I recently got my drivers license, so the roads just got more dangerous. :D
I am about 5'11" and around 205 pounds. I am heterosexual. I also enjoy going to movies with friends and just hanging out.
