Top 10 Favorite Games of All Time:
10. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64): Instant Classic. There's not much I can say about this game other than how great it was. We can all say that it was great for its time, but even that doesn't do it justice. Today, in the year 2008, I can pop that game in and it is just as much fun as it was when it first came out. Besides, it's Zelda for crying out loud.
9. Mike Tyson's Punchout! (NES): How can such an old game with such poor graphics be in the list of my top video games of all time? Easy. It was fun as hell. That's all video games are supposed to do, right? And that's exactly what this game did. Forget HD and next-gen graphics, forget special effects, and remember the classics. Taking Little Mac up the Major Circuit and eventually taking on Mike Tyson is one of the funnest things you can do. And in case you didn't know, beating Mike Tyson is probably the hardest thing I've ever done in a video game. Seriously.
8. Shadow of the Colossus (PS2): Probably one of the most out of the norm games that I've enjoyed as much as I have. The gameplay is so original and fun. The story was pretty good, and the graphics were beautiful. Going to find the next Colossus was half the fun of the entire journey, just because the graphics were so good across the land that you had to go through. But, like I said, the gameplay is what made this game so great. Taking a normal guy up these huge titans and having the battle ground actually being on the enemy was just so much fun. I really can't put into words how much fun and innovative the game feels... but if you've played the game, you know what I'm talking about.
7. F-Zero X (N64): I don't know why I love this game so much. The graphics aren't amazing, there's not too many game modes, and there's really no objective to the game other than to win the race, or destroy as many machines as possible before the race is over. But, even though there are very few things that make this game stand out above other racing games, there's nothing bad about it. It's just so much fun. Each racer has their own little back story. Whether it be the great hero Captain Falcon's story of constantly winning the Grand Prix races, or the Mighty Gazelle's story of his car crash that hurt him so bad that he's had to be rebuilt as a robot, each character has their own little back-story. The tracks are very nicely designed, where you don't feel like you're racing on the same track for the entire game, with small scenery changes. Each track has it's own feel, and no two are even remotely the same. One of my favorite things about this game is the soundtrack. It was amazing. All it takes is for me to play the game for 5 minutes, and I have the songs stuck in my head all over again. They add such a great feel to the game. When it comes down to it, the game is just plain old fun. Whether you're trying to win the Grand Prix, trying to get the best time in Time Attack, or trying to annihilate everybody else as quick as you can in Death Race, the game is amazing. It's just pure fun... that's the best way I can put it. I never go more than a few months without playing this game... I never get sick of it. It never gets old.
6. Super Smash Bros. (N64): Everybody loves this game, and I'm no exception. We all have memories sitting around with three other friends in our living rooms, battling it out on our N64's. It was great, because if you had an N64, you had this game. Nowadays, everybody has different tastes in game, whether it be an RPG, and FPS, a stealth game, bla bla bla. But SSB was just one of those games that everybody had, everybody played, and everybody loved. Ahh, memories. Melee and Brawl are now out, and they're both great games. I don't want to take anything away from them, because they have everything that the original had, plus more. But when I pop in SSB, you get that nostalgic feeling that few games give you. Classic.
5. God of War I & II (PS2): I like the second one better, but only because of the new features that were added to it. Both games are so great that I just couldn't leave the first one out. I love Greek Mythology, so this game instantly hit home for me. The gameplay is so much fun... all the different combos, the countless enemies that you encounter, the fun bosses... this game has it all. Not to mention the amazing "HD" cutscenes that it has. What other game can you team up with the shunned Titans of Ancient Greece and climb Mount Olympus to Challenge Zeus and the other gods?
4. Dead Rising (360): One word: Replayability... if that's even a word. What a fun game. If you own a 360, then you pretty much have to own this game. The ability to free-roam in an entire mall (a rather nice mall too, for such a boring town, eh?) is just so cool. You can wear the clothes from the different stores, eat the food from the stores or the entire supermarket that the game features, or cruise around the maintenance tunnels beneath the mall for quick travel. The game is pure fun. The story is pretty good, considering what they had to work with. How good could a story possibly be with zombies? But you never run out of ways to kill these things... when they say that you can use everything as a weapon, they aren't kidding. Anything from brooms to buckets to teddy bears to toy swords to plates to sports equipment... the list goes on and on. Or, even if you wanted to, you can use more conventional weapons, such as guns from the gun store or swords, knives, and axes from the sword store. Plus, this game also boasts a huge amount of unlockables and achievements. With 50 achievements, you can be kept very busy for a very long time trying to achieve everything in the game. Plus, it's not like you don't get anything to show for it. Not only do you get your gamer points, but you sometimes unlock something awsome for beating those harder achievements. Whether it be cool clothes, or sick weapons such as a real light saber, or Mega Man's gun which dishes out heavy damage, it's always fun to unlock something new. Besides MGS games, I don't think I've played through too many other game as many times as I have for this one. Really one of the first great next-gen games.
3. Super Mario 64 (N64): I always enjoyed playing the NES Mario games when I was a kid. But this game brought it home for me. What an amazing game. The free-roam style of gameplay is so great. Seeing Mario in 3D for the first time is almost nostalgic. I can't put into words how I feel about this game. You can go out and read any game review for this game, and they'll say what I'm leaving out here. I don't think I've ever heard anything bad about this game, and it's not hard to imagine why. I'll still play it for old time's sake every now and then, and it's just as great as it was when I played it as a kid. It's easily stood the test of time, and I don't think I'll ever get sick of it. Just an amazing game. And yes, I've gotten every single star.
2. The Half-Life series (PC/360): I played these games on the Orange Box, so I got into this series very recently. I'm not one of the veterans of the series that pretends to have played this game when the first one came out in the 90s, but I wish I did. I can't pick which one is my favorite, because each game has the same characters, same graphics, same weapons, and same gameplay. But it doesn't matter. The gameplay is so great that it alone would make the series one of my favorites. But, obviously, there is much more that adds to the greatness of this series than the gameplay. The story, obviously being the next major part in what makes this game great, is great. You really get a sense of despair from the people of Earth who's lives have been ruined by the brutal aliens. That's another thing about this game that I love: The way the game presents its characters. You actually feel like you're a part of the story, since the whole thing is in real time with no cutscenes. You're always in control of the character, and you feel like you're there. All in all, the series is great. It's so addicting that I can't even believe it. I hate FPS's, but these games are amazing. It makes me wonder why I hate all other FPS's as much as I do.
1. The entire Metal Gear Solid series (MSX, MSX2, PS, PS2, PSP): If I didn't group all of these games into one spot, my entire list would have been pretty much full of just Metal Gear games. I've been playing the series since I was probably 6 or 7, and I've always loved it. No other game comes close to these games for me. The stealth aspect of the game is perfect for me. So many games these days involves nothing more than running up and shooting everybody in sight. That's why MGS is so great. The thrill that you get from trying to sneak through an area is just so much more rewarding in the end than blasting down everybody in sight. The story is easily the best in any video game ever, and the voice acting is on a level of its own. The characters are the best that I've ever seen in a game. You've got the lonely and harsh soldier as the focal point, surrounded by tons of other deep characters. There's really nobody in the series that you'd have to guess what their morals are. Every character is presented very well, and has at least a little bit of story behind him or her, if not a very long and deep story. Even joke characters like Johnny that make an appearance in the games have stories behind them... it's great how cinematic Kojima has made a video game become. Plus, speaking of Kojima, this game has arguably the best director making this game of all time. He's great. He's nothing short of a genius. To make a story with so many twists and turns that has lasted 20 years now is just great. Plus, you get that classic Hideo Kojima humor in every single installment of the series. You MGS fans know what I'm talking about. All in all, they are just perfect games. If I had to choose one, I'd say that Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the best in the series, making it my favorite video game of all time. The gameplay was the best and most innovative that the series had offered at that point, and I loved the outside environment and all of the different camos that you could have Snake wear. Plus, it put Big Boss in the spotlight, and showed a bit of his story. |

| Biography: |
I came to Neoseeker in April of 2005. I didn't find these forums like most people did, though. I didn't come looking for codes, and happen to stumble across these boards. I actually came looking for them, after being banned from another site. I was new to the whole "forum thing", and I cursed out a moderator at another site, and got myself banned. I wanted to talk to other people about Metal Gear Solid so badly, that I saw this place and decided to join. I made my first account, Son of Big Boss, in April, but stopped using it once November rolled around. I then created this account, which was originally Big Boss 1117. That summer, I decided to have my name changed to just "Big Boss".
So, my main reason for coming here was to talk about Metal Gear Solid. I've expanded a little bit to a few other forums, but I spend the bulk of my Neo time in the Metal Gear Solid forums. When I made this new account, I posted all of the time in the MGS forums. I posted too much, as blue used to tell me, and I agree with him now. From November 8 to December 31, I had piled up over 1000 posts, mainly just in the MGS forums. I continued my rapid posting for a few months, until I grew a little bored with it, until now. I hardly post at all. I finally got a job and a car a bit after my extreme posting stage, and I was hardly ever home. I'm still hardly ever home, between school and work, so I really don't have time on Neo like I used to.
I always wanted to be a moderator, and I tried to do it since the first day I started. I was always so nice to people, I gave links to people, and all of that good stuff. Then, I grew sick of it, and stopped being so nice. I didn't mind not being a moderator, and got myself into some good fights.
Many of the Metal Gear Solid forum regulars may recall a few of my extremely entertaining debates in the Snake Eater forum, where posts went on for days. The pages were so stretched out by my posts, until the fight finally ended. The fight was only about the question of who the better soldier: Big Boss, or Solid Snake. I fought with Game Masta over this for so long, and it's quite stupid looking back at it. We both actually laugh at it. It's a good debate topic, but I got way too into stuff like that. I was lucky enough to never get banned from my over the top debates, until one day in late 2006... I was in a little quarrel in the already dead Snake Eater forum, and got myself banned.
For a while, I had a slump where I wasn't visiting the site anymore. But now, with MGS4 released, I'm active in the forums once more to talk about MGS.
Since I've been here, I've met some great people; too many to name. I've gotten to be good buddies with a few of my favorite members, such as Echo, reaver11, Thug Maniac/Fifth Element/sweet/blue, Vapour Snake, and Wolf. |
