It's interesting that War for Cybertron made your 360 list, but not your PS3 list?

Different authors wrote each section per their area of expertise. Heath wrote the PS3 section, and he has no experience with that title, so he could not recommend it. I'll add a note to the intro that other pages may contain recommendable titles for a given platform.

We've only listed games we've reviewed; listing ones we haven't wouldn't be very useful. Portal 2 is releasing in February.

I'm surprised that the limited edition version of the new Mario All-Stars pack coming out didn't make the Wii list. I figured that's a must-own for every Wii owner. Granted it's not out yet (well, it is in Japan), but none of them are new games.

Glad the XBox list had more variation than the completely garbage list over on IGN.

Can't say it's a useful buyer's guide. All three of the main console sections look 'meh-ish' but the Wii section looks absolutely the worst of the three. Next to the other two consoles you've made it look like complete trash considering the line-up of games that have come out recently or are on the verge of being released shortly here in the coming weeks. And since you scale the waves of releases dating back to January 2010 for some titles, I'm particularly shocked such omissions of games like Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Monster Hunter Tri, Kirby's Epic Yarn, NBA Jam (wii) and others weren't given a nod in that list. Least forget the mother of all comebacks from E3 when it was announced, despite not listing it because it hasn't been "reviewed", Donkey Kong Country Returns should have received some sort of mention somewhere in the Wii section.

He said the All-Star game, not the Red Wii Console bundle. The All-Star game is finally coming out in North American since it's been exclusive only to Japan. Can't wait for it too. Comes out next week.

To continue on that thought, please note that we do try to get our hands on titles big and small.
Sad to say, Nintendo has never been very forthcoming, which is why most of our Wii reviews are for third party games.

Gabe (VeGiTAX2) is trying to change that, of course, but these things do take some time/effort.

Yeah, the Last Pokemon game i played was Diamond. And it was pretty cool. Every time they make a new pokemon game, there's alway an improvement, and new things to do. For Ex: In Pokemon Sapphire and Ruby, they had a rather small Battle Frontier, But then they made Pokemon Emerald, and they made the Battle Frontier much bigger, and it was really fun. Then they made Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and then, of course, they made a Pokemon Platinum! I guarantee that after they make Pokemon Black and White, I bet you they're Gonna make Pokemon Grey. That how these guys think. They'll always do something like that.

No bets needed. It's already set in stone thanks to the release pattern seen since Gen 3.

The more interesting question would be if the extra version heads to 3DS or not.

It seems more what The Living Angelus is getting at is that one article is trying to serve two functions (year in review for reviews for one and buying guide for the other) when it's really more geared for the year in review of review purpose letting the buying guide portion suffer a bit. So as a buying guide it presents "Why this? Why not that?" and the answer to that is simply what was and wasn't reviewed. And since people tend to think buying guide translates into "the games to get" what is left out... well, nuff said there.

So as a buying guide someone could look at it and be thinking "Hm... God of War III...ok. Mass Effect 2... ok. Darksiders... eh, alright. Wait... where the frag is Red Dead Redemption?"

So as a buying guide for that SAMPLE of games it's fine. As a buying guide for 2010? It gives The Living Analus a twitch.

Yep..I recognize it's limited, but that's going to happen to any site that doesn't have access to every game (most sites). We could've thrown in games we've played that weren't reviewed, or games we haven't played but were pretty sure were safe bets, but I decided that wouldn't be very substantial. I mean, why should you take our word for it if we don't have a review to back up our recommendation? That's hard-earned money you're spending.

The primary goal is a buying guide -- the "year in review" thing is a secondary effect, at least from a writer's standpoint. I still think for the most part it's a great one, even if we're missing a few key titles. Admittedly, the Wii section isn't lengthy, but the titles mentioned are great choices and varied.

To reiterate what Lydia said, we try to get everything pretty much. The guide helps a lot each year anyway in helping us secure more titles, so next year's will be even better, as this year's was even better than last year's.

Funny you should mention RDR -- we've not had the pleasure of reviewing RDR (or any R* games).
I did play a bit of on my own time, and hence it was originally included as an honorable mention.
Unfortunately, we did decide it best to remove games we did not review from the honorable mention lists following some discussion.

Rest assured we are fully aware that the guide is missing some amazing games.
Also rest assured that we attempted to acquire them for review through appropriate channels (every Nintendo game TLA mentioned, in fact).
It is a rather tough industry, but we've also made quite a bit of progress in just a couple years, and we're proud of that... though it doesn't mean we're complacent!

Next year will be even better, if this trend continues for us.

P.S. I'm going to credit VeGiTAX2 again here.
He may not do any writing, but he's absolutely integral for editorial to function properly and focus on what we do.

Translation: He gets us our games.

We've only listed games we've reviewed; listing ones we haven't wouldn't be very useful. Portal 2 is releasing in February.

April now, so far off the list.

Games I totally agree are awesome:
  • New Vegas
  • Beat Hazard
  • Battlefield Bad Company 2
  • Mass Effect 2
My favorite recent games of their genre, definitely worth the moolah.

Worms I liked, but was really buggy. They've had quite a few patches since the last time I opened it though, so I'm assuming it's all fixed up now to an enjoying-ly playable point. I really have to open that up again and play it, me and my vent buddies bought two of those four-packs when it came out and haven't played it in ages.

How is Assassin's Creed Brotherhood? It was on the 360 or PS3 list, but not the PC list. Holding out to see if it's bugged on release, or badly ported?

My experience is with the Prince of Persia series, which looks lovely and has a nice variety of graphical options and proper keyboard/mouse/controller support:

I know Assassin's Creed is more or less the same, and they also have a history with strategy series' like Settlers, Heroes of Might and Magic, and so on.

Nicely done but do you (the one that wrote the PC section) really think Alpha Protocol is that good?

Personally I haven't played "yet" but going along with the mixed reviews, I am quite hesitant.

Also would playing Divine Divinity II before Divinity II have a benefit at all or are they two completely separate games?

That was I.
It depends on how picky you are. If you're the type to not be able to enjoy a game because a game it's not completely polished/bug-free, then you will probably dislike it. If you can look past that stuff, you'll find a highly enjoyable game. Keep in mind it's very much a port -- if you have a console, I might actually recommend it on that instead, where it would feel more at home. But definitely get it on PC if you don't have a console. Note it's on sale for $15 on GamersGate now, and there's a not very well known patch for it (not compatible with GG version..they should have their own).

As for Divinity, I'll quote the FAQ:

quote
There's no need to have played Divine Divinity or Beyond Divinity [first], though of course, it does help in understanding the deeper meaning of certain story elements.
It's a highly recommended game (I've only played a bit myself, but I can see what people mean), if you like traditional isometric RPGs. It's got a lot of the same elements -- engrossing world, incredible/unique soundtrack, hilarious dialogue, etc. Grab it (and maybe Beyond Divinity) from GOG.com if you are interested.

Damn was hoping you would say they aren't worth it...I have an ever growing pile of games I have yet to complete and it just keeps getting bigger

To be the honest, the only bugs that get to me are the ones that break the game, if it is anything like clipping, missed dialogue etc. then it doesn't bother me. It may hurt my thoughts about the game but not much to actually slate a game.

Unless it is Black Ops, which crashes on me every 5 minutes but that's a whole other story

chautemoc Nov 22, 10
Well, due to not having that last layer of polish, I wouldn't call Alpha Protocol essential, if you're looking for a reason to not buy. Although there's not really anything else like it, so maybe it kind of is...

Yeah, it doesn't have anything like that. For the PC version, honestly the only thing that really bothers me is the crappy UI -- that totally takes me out of the experience.

Black Ops got another patch the other day, but I'm told it's still a mess. Sticking with Bad Company 2, myself.

ShadowJ Nov 22, 10
Yup, sadly the patch has made it worse. Before the initial patch I had the odd crash and a lot of lag. Now after the patch I have hardly any lag and a lot of crashes. Even worse for my house mate who has a dual core processor, his lags even more now...so yeah while the game is good, the launch was somewhat of a failure, even to the point of thinking about getting a refund.

Though I digress, currently downloading Divinity II now while playing Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, so it's all good
