Multiple personalities might've made more sense.

Doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it? "People with multiple personality disorder".

Yeah, but schizophrenics don't have multiple personalities. Some hear voices, but that's about as close as it gets.

I'm aware. It's a common misconception, Schizophrenics have delusions about reality and sometimes hear voices, but they don't have separate personalities. Jokes don't have to be scientifically accurate, they have to make the average audience member laugh. And it's an average misconception about schizophrenia that they have multiple personalities. It's also, for those who know what schizophrenia actually is, common knowledge what the general public misconceives about the disease. So they, as well as those who are uninformed, can understand the base of the joke. Like I said before, saying "People with multiple personality disorder" doesn't work well for the joke. It's too long and too specific-sounding. So I altered it to be more succinct and fitting.

I'd imagined that's what you were getting at, although I wasn't actually aware that it was a common misconception.

Don't mind me, anyway. I have a habit of ruining people's jokes.
