Because of AOL I took a deep breath, I had just finished ready two chapters from POW by Collins. My mother was done with WWII for the night and decided to re-boot her computer. She needed an AOL disk to re-boot her internet service. She called around the local stores to see which ones carried the free disk. We got up to leave and I threw away my jucibox. We went to wal-mart first but there was no disk. We tried Albertson’s, but no disk. Things may get heated........... Last stop 7-Eleven. I looked inside and saw gift cards. I thought, maybe the one place who did not have them will have them! I looked inside no disk. I would never guess that God would grant me something Nintendo could never re-invent. I looked around one last time. I looked outside, oh, a cute little black puppy. I went back to Mom. “Do you want a Slurpee?” she asked. “Nah, sounds to sweet.” I said. Sickly, I remember a big green hulk selling coke-a-cola. Maybe if I get her away from Hulk, we can pet the puppy. I motioned to go. Mom saw it! We stepped outside I wanted to ask the employee for a treat for the dog. He was cute, floppy ears, clear eyes, curled tail, and big white teeth. He was black and brown. If I had this dog I would name him Buel. Oh, so perfect. He looked at a boy who was on his bike. Due to instinct the dog ran after the bike he never looked before he crossed the street. I instantly thought of a lab that had run away from me at a yard sale. I never saw him again. I hope this little black dog would be ok. We got in the car to leave. Before it ever hit us the car in front of us, a red convertible, spun out of control. I peered over and saw a pitiful black dog standing in front of the convertible sniffing the street! That stupid dog nearly got killed. Mom, that dog. She told me to go get it. The lady in the car asked me if I was going to get him. I said yes and asked if she saw where he went. Down the street she said, I looked and saw him. A silhouette. I ran full pace. He weaved in and out of church parking lots and backyards. I saw a white SUV pull out then a horn cleared the slienlence. The end. I remembered a Chihuahua that I had the chance to get, but the owners picked it up right after I got out of the car. Well, someday. Boom! The clear sound of claws on pavement! He lives! The chase is on. I call the name, Buel. I pray he turns like the dog in Because of Win-Dixie, he runs faster. The men in the Suv and the Lady from the convertable corner him. I gave a short whimper that I did not know where I was. Then Hogan’s Heroes flashed in my mind. Unlike giving up like Newkirk, I ran! The dog was my prize. I pressed forward like I was in a video game on my last life on the last level. Soon some people came around, they had at least three big dogs. One was a husky, my sis likes husky I thought. Finally I caught him! He wiggled and I did not want to be bit, I let him go. A few seconds later he calms down. The men said he trusted me. I got him, and petted his back. I called for a rope but no one but the Lady seemed to hear. She looked in her car, but sadly could no find anything. A few moments later a saw my mother’s wan face, she did not realize that I had ran two blocks as fast as I could to catch Buel. I got into the Chevy, he was mine! When I got her house I put him on a chain. I played with him until we gave him a bath and worm treatment. Afterwards a tied him in the kitchen. He cried and cried. What seemed like hours I petted him he fell a sleep about thirty past twelve. The next day I called my Dad, I knew I could pay to have him fixed and get shots and niceties but the pet deposit was my biggest hurdle. I asked him if I could take my little Buel home. He said no. I asked him if he could stay at a friends house, maybe he said. I went to the mall, that is where my mother works. I had twenty dollars to spend, but wisely I saved some for Father’s Day. I bought a Hawaiian print collar, a leash, and a brush, all of these where red! Lizzie picked out some lipstick. We retreated to my mother’s work place and waited. After what seemed like myriad errands we got home. I took Buel for a walk. I was so thankful, but my heart cried, what if I could not keep him? That night I would call the friend. Please God! That night I took him to the park. It was so unreal. Seeing his flea medicine we had bought hadn’t sunk in yet he had to stay of the grass, I ran him on the concrete. Next I picked him up and we swung, then we rode a bike and went down a slide. I even got him to jump through a hoop just like a Nintendog! He became grumpy and we took him home. When I called the friend, they replied there place was too picky for them to take him. I cried. Then I remembered to never let your guard down, I missed Annie, my kitten, so much when I could no keep her, that was not going to happen to Buel. This was the climax. He woke me up that morning. I cherished every moment but I was so tired I became unaware of him. First he licked my hand, then he licked my foot. He was like the Dalmatians in Disney’s 101 Dalmatians. After I woke up I took him outside, God thank you, he is so sweet! Of course I was still unaware if I would be able to take him home... The next day I called my Dad yet again. He said some thing I would never forget. “It is not about pet deposits or money.” He had said. I knew he understood because he had brought home strays too. I worked a deal, I would by dog food and shots ect. if the dog could stay over there until we moved from the never right Ridgmar. From then on I understood both parents wanted me to have the little dog! Before we left the nieghbor told me he was a Rat Terrier, pure blooded. There are tons of rat terriers so look up the German won she had said! I showed the dog to my Dad, he looked like any other little black dog with an extremely dignified name. Some say I never cried when we left but I did. Buel was everything everything that I wanted. That was the song stuck in my head. When I got home the video games where boring, compeered to my dog. Why would I ever miss shooting Nazis or planting crops? I walked outside. I was hoping not to see to little strays that lived here. Maybe they had found a home too. I left a message on my mom’s phone. When she called she was at work, I wanted to hear about Buel but he was still at home! I talked. The next day she called. I talked and she put Buel on the phone. I heard him pant, that made my day! I’m going to go to wal-mart and buy you stuff I mused! I never guessed that the sixty dollars that I saved would be spent on a forever friend, Buel. -mary, buel's col. *This is a TRUE story 100'/.* Buel Thast But Not least: My CS petz!
