Another Australian Handout

So here I am sitting on the couch watching the news after hearing about some big package the government is handing out. You know what, this package isn't doing shit for our future, sure it is giving a huge amount of people $950 dollars. The whole point of this is for these people to then buy something and pump the money back into the economy. Do you really think this will happen though? In short it won't, the Australian people are going to pay off debt or save it. Only true idiots such as the people who put together this package will buy a new TV. People are scared of losing their jobs and they will do everything in their power to save money in case this occurs.

What Kevin Rudd and his experts need to do is admit that the economy is screwed and plan for the best way out. We need to build up infrastructure to provide more jobs for more people. We need to build up the education system with new teachers and better materials. This way more educated people will be pumped into society helping push Australia into a teriary economy. We need to stop refining materials into product and instead rely on services as our main aspect of the economy. Countries such as Sweden that have this level of economy are not suffering as badly. We need to get a top-notch education system to push us into this section of economy. If we cannot the financial crisis will affect us for far longer and leave us in a much damage to deal with.

In all *bleep* you Kevin Rudd. You need to admit we are heading towards recession and prepare for the damage that is coming. This will allow Australia to rough out the tough times and come out with a group of graduates ready to boost our economy more than a $950 dollar handout.

I wonder what Kevin really does with all that money. It obviously isn't helping us, but where does it end up? Wasting money like that gets us into resession more quickly.

It is meant for us to spend and pump back into the economy. We all that is not going to happen.

I guess you are right on this one, the handout isn't going to change anything, just make people believe that Rudd is doing something meaningful. It's a better move than Howard would have made though. Your ideas are all long term, they wouldn't have any effect on the economy at this time, except that there might be a few more jobs. It'd take 10 years or so for your ideas to get us on the right track... but there isn't much else we can do but that.

Actually know it would only take six years for my ideas to come into play. A national ENTER score, instead of one in each state. Plus four years of top-notch university and people will have the right qualifications to push us into the tertiary stage of economy. Rudd needs to look the the long term more than the short term. Incase you didn't notice the Australian economy was doing very well before America got screwed over. Our dollar was worth 96 US cents. We were doing so well, we were getting ready to push for this stage. We need to continue doing so by building infrasrtucture for the short term but more so for the long term. Also we need to tighten up on immigration. I am all for multi-cultural society but what they did to graduate teachers like Hell Fire was dog. The WA government (Labor) imported 700 teachers from other countries for jobs, leaving our graduates jobless. This is terrible management for our country, do you really think that $950 will help them? *bleep* off it will. They need jobs to benefit our economy.

By the way you cannot say Howard would of done better. We don't know what he would have done, so don't say that. Tbh, I hate both of them.

Keep in mind that handouts like this by a government (generally speaking) are almost always geared towards the lower class and low end middle class. They are the heavy movers in an economy mainly because of their impulsive purchases.

This also lets the government look good in other people's eyes. "Oh how thoughtful they're giving us money!!" A lot of people aren't educated enough to realize that it's their own tax dollars coming back at them! It's like you're paying yourself.

Even if only 80% of the people spend their $950, the government will make back nearly 30% back in taxes with their handout. The government isn't losing, because it shouldn't have been their money in the first place! It's a vicious cycle.

I hear Obama might be doing something similar or at least kicking around the idea. If that happens my money will be going towards paying down debt and trying to become a bit more liquid.......and maybe a PS3 game.

Actually the last time he handed out money like this was before Christmas. Statistics show that only around 30% of the put their money back into the cycle. The rest saved it, meaning that Government lost a fair bit for only a few people being better off. The only good thing about this handout is that 60% of the population will get it, so almost all aldults will recieve it. Still it would be better of spending it on infrastructure and things to help us with crisis and not saying it is not inevitable.

I think the only people who should receive this payment should be high school graduates. Once they complete year 12 they receive their payments. This way it is rewarding people for continuing their education, rather than rewarding people who dropped out of school, ended up with a shit job, or none at all, and are really struggling in the recession because of it. All in all its their own fault, so I believe they get what they deserve.

Wow, so your saying only reward people who want or need an education? Look some people are born with trade skills and not academic intelligence. Should they have to sit around in school doing Year 11 or 12 when they can have a full time job for two more years and complete their apprenticeship? No they shouldn't. They deserve this as much as anyone else.

All I can say is about time "working australians" got a bit back from what we have been putting in to the economy in the past. Eg; paying taxes for the dole bludgers, single mums with kids to different dads and are getting the max FTB part a and b with child maint ON TOP. How many handouts have been given to these types of ppl?? Well now its OUR turn to get one, and at least we keep working to keep out economy going so the centrelink "employees" can keep getting their friggin payments....
