Original and favorite have very different meanings.

I'm not saying I'd prefer it if they revisited more animal-like designs, but I feel like a lot of the creatures introduced in the newer games, specifically B/W, could just as easily have been a part some other monster farming, collecting series. The qualities that scream Pokemon to me weren't as abundant, or maybe they were too abundant. I don't know, but a lot of them seemed way too flashy.

Gen V still had a pretty big boner for animal-based stuff. Some Pokemon even looked a bit too much like actual animals (Lillipup, the new deer guys who I forget the names of, the duck and Swanna).

True, but that wasn't what I was getting at. I mean to say that those that say Generation V Pokémon are unoriginal because of, for example, have a Poké based on a rubbish (garbage) bag, yet still hold that the first 151 Pokémon were original while completely disregarding things like it included a Pokémon that was, essentially, sludge with sentience.

I suppose originality is something often called into question when you have to make over 700 inidivual designs for things, but just because something looks like something else that has existed before it, doesn't necessarily mean it's any less original that Charmander being based off of a Lizard, or Squirtle being based off of a turtle.

Nature very much works in the same way, it takes things from one thing, and then something from another and puts them together to make something a little different. While that isn't an excuse for an artist being a little "unoriginal", it's not completely unheard of or unorthodox.

I also dislike the idea that Pokémon don't look like Pokémon... of course they do! There is no specific Pokémon-look for make them look that way.

Whoever said a Pokemon had to have certain qualities/characteristics? That's just silly.

What people don't factor in is that with each exotic location, wouldn't the wildlife also be more exotic? Snowflake and ice cream pokemon don't seem all that strange to me considering we have Pokemon based around eggs and the alphabet from previous gens.

Any argument surrounding the originality of design is flawed and wrong. Whether or not something is original is superfluous, it all comes down to "I just don't like it" or "It's new and different".

Oh, come on. That's not true. For all we know Akira Hino calls up Tajiri every Friday so they can pow wow at the local Starbucks.

Yeah, the new guys are probably the most 'original' Pokemon yet to be quite honest. I'm just absolutely in love with Gen 3. The new guys seem pretty cool and I'm still extremely eager to get Black or White and finally get my ass through them to see all the added stuff, but Gen 3 will always hold my favourite Pokemon.

It's *bleep*ing Hipsters who are saying that
"I liked pokemon when it was the first gen" somehow means they're better than you.
So what I liked it back then too but I like it now too with better technology and more pokemon to choose from. What's wrong with more choice.
