I can potentially make up to about £1 through Steam trading cards so far, looks like Christmas came early

I was in Steam checking what was in my "inventory" and noticed these playing cards too, coming from my Civilization V game. I have no clue what this stuff is for. I only play a few games via Steam, so I doubt I'll ever bother with this card system.

They're literally only for selling :-P

Odd. Selling to other gamers or selling to Steam itself? I don't know why anyone would want to collect them as it is.

Selling to other gamers. You've probably missed it but trading cards have become absolutely huge over the last year through iPhone/Android apps and now everyone is doing it.

I mean, that's the odd thing about it. There are the kind of trading cards like baseball cards where you trade them with the intent to sell them in the future after the player has become popular, kind of like making an investment Then there are the trading cards that are a part of a game, where the cards have statistical values and you can use them to play against other people. I have no idea what these Steam cards are for. I doubt having Catherine of Russia in Civilization V is going to mean anything to anyone.

They're literally just collectible items, the price based on the rarity and demand basically.
