The original Sin & Punishment was a cult hit that got the attention it deserved once Nintendo released it...

Platinum Games is placing high hopes on Vanquish, the studio's fourth title and flagship shooter. ...

I think it would be neat to start a 3DS preview series, looking at the various publishers who have shown their interest in the 3DS and check out their plan of action. We'll being looking at their confirmed games, and of course, a little history on company tendencies and speculation on what else these publishers can come up with. If you've never heard of these publishers, now it's the time to get to know them.

Atlus Co., Ltd. is a Japanese developer and publisher noted for the development of three series: the flagship Megami Tensei, Trauma Center, and Etrian Odyssey. In Japan, Atlus is the primary publishers of games from Japanese developer Sting Entertainment, having inked that deal in 2009.

The Megami Tensei series combines classic RPG gameplay with the wonders of demon fusion, not being afraid the push the boundaries of what is acceptable content-wise. Gods, demons, and fighting them both are par for the course in the Megami Tensei series, which have branched out to various spinoff series that have its roots in the original formula, like Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga, and the now widely-popular Persona series.

One of Atlus's key strengths is their North American localization arm Atlus USA, which was established in 1991 and is based in Irvine, CA. In a landscape filled with the NIS's and Ignition's of the world, Atlus USA has been a god among niche game localizers, steadily increasing in quality from the PlayStation days where Working Designs was king. The best part is that Atlus USA isn't tasked with just localizing the mothership's output; they can branch out and acquire the rights to those smaller Japanese titles that do not have a major American arm.
