The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age User Reviews
Wow. Just *bleep*ing wow. What a piece of shit I just got a hold of. It's like EA didn't even try to use the source material to its best advantage. Instead, they decided to just take all the money and make a half assed piece of shit for more money. Typical of EA, isn't it? Why else would they rehash sports games every year? I'm surprised they don't rehash RPGs that feel like the spawn of *bleep*. It's worth noting that even though licensed games aren't always that good, man, this is the first (and last at this point in time) Lord Of The Rings game that totally sucks massive dick! The other ...
At least the battle system isn't done wrongly; the way to gain new skills, while it feels ripped off from another game (can't recall the name), is at least different from leveling up to get new skills; visuals are bloody amazing and so detailed; soundtrack, while being recycled from the movies, is basically an eargasm. The bad:
Rips off Final Fantasy X's battle system; literally no character development; in fact, literally no story except "save such and such"; hardly any of the original Lord Of The Rings characters make a decent appearance (oh, just one or three fights? OH JOY!); doesn't even have the basic RPG elements (currecy, town) aside from battling; needs more hobbits; drab, monotomous voice acting; lacks FMVs; and let's be honest, this doesn't even feel like an RPG, so why EA marketed this as one is beyond me... Oh, and extras are pointless filler.Summary:
You know these sorts of games...where the developers focus only the graphics, soundtrack and hyping the crap out of it, only to get people suckered into playing a monotomous rip off with a terrible story (which is basically non-existant, unless you consider "kill this guy" "get this item" and "save some person" a story), literally no character development, flawed and mostly-plagurised gameplay and battle after battle after battle. Oh, forgot to mention something; it breaks LOADS of RPG traditions! Seriously, I didn't even think of this as an RPG until I read it up on the In...
-Many missions to play in.
-Many characters to use.
-Able to customize characters.
-Can be good or evil.
-Can get repititious.
-The enemies almost always out numbers you.
-Evil sides Orcs die way to easy.
Turn the Lord of the Rings franchise into a Turned-Based strategy game that sucks.
The level design is good and detailed. The characters look like the actors in the movie and the shadow and lighting effects look nice also.
The music of this game is like the music in the movie and is put together nicely too. The sound effects are okay too. There's no voice acting in the game but thats because its for the Gameboy Advanced.
The controls are good but thats probably because there's like seven buttons on the Gameboy, but the controls are okay.
This games is a Turne...
Playing some lord of the rings famous battles is always good. Has good graphics for a gameboy advance, Possibility of plaiyng as evils. Has many secondary heroes. The experience system, altough very very simple, adds something to the game. The bad:
VERY slow gameplay. Even if it´s a turn based STRATEGY game it doesnt involve much strategy, actually luck is more a factor than strategy is. You can use three characters from the evil side (witch king/nazgul king, saruman and mouth of sauron) and three from the good side (Aragorn, gandalf or ) YOU CAN JUST USE TWO SAVE SLOTS, ONE FOR THE GOOD AND ONE FOR THE BAD!!! That´s easily one of the stupidiest thing I ever saw in a game!!! This game could have a very high replay rate, so you can enjoy all heroes and sub-heroes, but in order to do that you should delete your character. Prrety dumb, and it really hurts the gameplay and replay value, since most players wouldnt play for real more than one time with good and one with evil.Summary:
This game may be good to pass the time, good graphics, playing as lord of the rings characters´... But you dont need to think too much to play this game, just to the same damm thing, chosing wich units to move, move then, attack... untill you win or lose, in that case you play again untill you win. But this game may be obrigatory for LOTR fans, even if its not a really good game.
Unique perspective in Tolkien's world
Decent skill system
Ability to go back to previous chapters
Disappointing Evil Mode
Too reliant on the movies (use more of the books!)
EA games comes out with an other RPG adventure based on the Lord of the Rings movies. Notice how I say movies and not books. This is not a bad attempt, but it certainly could be better.
Graphics: I like how different equipment will show up on your character during battles, walking around, and in various cut scenes. Some of the spells are cool and others (especially light and shadowcrafting) are forgetable. The fellowship looks like their movie counterparts. I don't like how the scenary changes abrubtly throughout the game (3.5/5.0)
Gameplay: Battles are random and turn based which I'm used to...
Don't go there girlfriend!The bad:
A lot. Just read the review.Summary:
Oh man, this is the worst Lord of the Rings game to grace Middle Earth, Our Earth, and maybe even another Earth! Worst of all is that EA made this game. How could they give us such utter crap!? This game has no characterization, no plot, no originality, changes the LoTR parts!
The "Story" begins with you playing Berethor who is a guard of the Citidal. The game says he was sent by Denethor to look for Boromir but they don't say why. Denethor sent Boromir to Rivendell for the council meeting about the ring, why would he send some guard after him? Berethor gets attacked by two Ring Wraiths wh...
