Legendary

Summary:

Getting older sucks. Nothing’s ever as good as it used to be, increasingly fewer people seem to be able to remember what the good ol’ days were like, and everything new is weird and scary. And when it comes to the incredibly rapid evolution that is modern gaming, I’m starting to feel like Cranky Kong (A single joystick, and a single button is all that’s needed to make good g...

Origins of Zelda

The good:

Non-Linear
Challenging
Puzzles
Accessible

The bad:

Outdated graphics and sound
Poor plot delivery and development
Hyrule itself is uninteresting
Often obscure
Poor save system

Summary:

Okay, let's get something clear. The whole concept of the NES Classics series just seems like a rip off idea. NES games are old and simple. If you're going to be packing them up for newer audiences without touching them why do one game per cart? Nevertheless, Legend of Zelda set the foundation for all future Legend of Zelda games, so I wanted to have a go at this classic for myself.

Visuals

The NES was never amazingly capable of stunning visuals. However, I doubt you would call the Legend of Zelda's graphics to be good even by those standards. Add in the competition from virtually every other...

The original Legend of Zelda leaves a good first impression

The good:

Gameplay.
Graphics (for the time).
Audio.
Leaves a good first impression.

The bad:

Hard to find your way around.
Required a bit too much trial and error.

Summary:

Lastability: 7/10.
Mostly because of some dungeons and being fairly hard at first, but 1 extra because you get lost so often.
Graphics: 8/10.
It's a NES game, so it has to be 2-D. It's also an early one, so it has to be a little like Super Mario Brother's graphics. Seriously, it looks good.
Sound: 8/10.
Few soundtracks which are very memorable and well done. The Zelda theme...sorry the "overworld music" is probably the best of the lot, considering we're hearing that a lot. Only problem - Not too many. About as many songs as Super Mario Brothers, but other games had more. Why not this game?

The Legend of Zelda

The good:

The first proper Zelda, where the whole series kicked off.
Some really cool things to do and a nice layout of the screen.

The bad:

The controls can get really annoying sometimes.

Summary:

The Legend of Zelda was the first proper Zelda game to be released in the long line of series. This is were Link started it off on an 8-bit console and considering it's 8-bit the graphics arn't that bad and the way the screen is layed out is really good. The dungeons and other areas in the game are really well designed and the music to suit the type of place you are in are really good. The controls are all good except on the menu screen when sometimes you are swapping weapons you don't want to and it takes a while to do what you want but you get used to it after a little while.

Fight!!!

Summary:

don't think there are many gamers out there that haven't even played one of the many games in the Legend of Zelda series let alone the game that started it all. However anyone new to the series probably never experienced this gem - maybe even felt it was inferior. Although the newer titles may muscle this title over with flashy graphics and more massive maps with lots more to do, The Legend of Zelda is one challenging quest for the ages.

Now the plot may not be as complicated and involved as later installments, but for a NES game, it gets the job done. In the land of Hyrule, there is an al...

The first is still the best

The good:

Lots of mazes to explore & items to collect. Challenging battles. 2 different quests. Game data can be saved.

The bad:

Nothing.

Summary:

The first RPG on the NES, this game launched a franchise and introduced a new gameplay genre to millions. The story follows Link, a young swordsman, as he tries to save Princess Zelda & the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon using the power of the Triforce. Link uses weapons like swords, bombs, & arrows to accomplish this.
The first thing you'll notice is there's a lot of action-almost every time you move to a new screen there will be enemies waiting for you, plus out-of-the-way items to be reached. And when you think you've finished the game, there's another quest waiting for you-same ma...
