[edit] Background

Left 4 Dead 2 is a first-person shooter game set in the middle of a pandemic which is causing zombie-like symptoms to occur in the infected; the player takes control of one player and must work with the other three members of the group to survive each level and make it to the safe zone.

It was developed and published by Valve Corporation in 2009 for PC and Xbox 360.

[edit] Gameplay

The game features five different campaigns which are composed of several levels; the player needs to reach the safe zone and close the door once the group is all inside to complete the level. The final level of each campaign has a different objective however where the group needs to collect fuel cans for a car, fight through a large number of infected to reach an escape vehicle or to survive waves of enemies until rescue arrives. It's possible to play each campaign with online co-op with up to four players in one instance.

There are also three other gamemodes: Versus, Survival, and Scavenge. Survival is a cooperative mode where players must survive for as long as possible against endless waves of enemies. Versus and Scavenge are PvP modes where two teams of players fight to complete their objectives; in these modes, players are human or Special Infected.

Special Infected are Infected that have mutations which give them certain abilities and a different appearance; there is also a range of Uncommon Infected which do not have special abilities but are harder to kill than the Common Infected.

Players have access to a wide variety of weapons including melee weapons; they can be obtained around each level however the player can only hold two weapons at the same time. Other items in the game can also be carried without impacting the weapon limit. Each player can carry one first aid kit, ammo pack or a defibrillator which can revive a dead player; when a player is almost dead, they enter a downed state and can be revived without a defibrillator. Each character has an infinite use flashlight to see in the dark and can carry single-use throwable items such as Molotov cocktails.

[edit] What's New

The biggest addition to the game are the three new Special Infected; the Charger, the Spitter, and the Jockey. They each bring new abilities to the game such as the Jockey which can jump on the back of players to drive them into nearby dangers. All types of Infected have new models, and there are also new Uncommon Infected which adds a twist to the Infected in the game.

This game introduces melee weapons to the game and made several changes to the weapons in the game to add a new tier. Several changes were also made to Gauntlet Crescendos to make them more challenging; this triggers a significant number of Infected and usually need to be done to progress through the level.

More gamemodes have been added to this game; Realism Versus, Realism, and Mutations which are tweaked versions of the original modes to make them more difficult.
