[edit] Background

Knack is a platform based beat 'em up game which was released for the PlayStation 4 in 2013. The game is set during a time of war when the Goblins have attacked Humans with the aim of destroying them; a Human doctor and researcher was able to create a being based on the information left behind by a lost civilization.

Knack is the small creature that was created by the doctor and he must use his mysterious powers to aid the Humans in their war however, not all Humans accept or support him. While the Goblins are the biggest threat, there is also danger posed by some of the Human community which Knack needs to deal with.

The game was developed by SCE Japan Studio and was published by Sony.

[edit] Gameplay

The game is composed of linear levels where the player must travel from the start to the finish of the level; each level is filled with enemies that must be defeated along the way and also special objects which will upgrade Knack. Each level also contains puzzles which are jumping or switch-based and these must be completed to progress through the game. The levels in the game are set in many different locations and the player must complete the objectives set by the story in order to complete the level. There are 13 different chapters in the game for the player to complete, each of these chapters have their own sub-chapters.

Knack has a variety of abilities and is able to transform with the use of ancient relics; with the use of them he is able to grow to large sizes or to shrink even smaller to pass through small spaces. Each of his physical forms have different abilities which can allow him to move faster, pick up large objects or can make him weaker and stronger depending on the form.

In addition to the ancient relics, Knack is able to control and use some elements. He can use Ice, Wood, Metal and Poison which all have unique effects; poison for example will cause him to slowly lose Relics and need to replenish them quickly. He can also use Crystal Relics which allow him to use powerful tornado attacks on his enemies.

During combat he is able to use special attacks and combo his moves to deal high damage; as the game progresses he will level up and unlock more abilities. There are a variety of difficulty levels.

It can be played co-op where a second player can join the game at any moment and control Knack's support named Robo Knack. Robo Knack has the same skill set and can also heal Knack by giving him parts of himself; the second player can join and leave the game at any time.
