Halo 3 is the third game in the Halo series and is the final chapter in the first story arc; it follows the events of the Halo: Uprising comic and Master Chief has now crashed in eastern Africa. After being found, Chief and his new companions must stop a Covenant attack on a UNSC outpost in the region but the mission doesn't go as planned and a Flood-infested ship has crashed on Earth.
Chief must deal with the infected ship while the Prophet and Truth cause even more trouble by opening a slipspace portal; Master Chief must fight through the galaxy to protect Earth and stop the impending Covenant invasion.
The game was developed by Bungie and published by Microsoft in 2007 for the Xbox 360; it was re-released in 2014 for the Xbox One as part of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
Players have a wide range of weapons to select from in this first-person shooter; the game is balanced to allow players to use firearms, grenades and melee attacks. Certain weapons in the game can also be dual-wielded however, this restricts the use of grenades and melee attacks. Players can carry up to two weapons at once with a range of projectile weapons such as grenades.
Halo 3 features a campaign mode which can be played solo or with up to three other players co-cooperatively through Xbox Live; it contains a strong multiplayer section that allows up to 16 players in a single instance. There are nine gamemodes to select from and players also have the ability to create custom game types by adjusting a variety of aspects.
The Forge Map Editing tool allows the player to create their own multiplayer maps by editing existing maps; players are able to edit and manipulate objects to place them in almost any position on the map.
A new type of weapon has been added to the game which adds a new mechanic to the gameplay; the “support weapons” are two-handed weapons which provide more damage however, the player moves more slowly with them.
Other additions have also been made to provide more drivable vehicles and bring AI exclusive vehicles into the campaign; various new items and equipment have also been added to the game to add new abilities to the game.
