[edit] Background

GoldenEye 007 is the 2010 remake of the original James Bond game, GoldenEye 007 which was released in 1997; these games are based on the movie from which they share the same name.

The plot in the new version has been modified to take place after the Cold War and is set after the Quantum of Solace game. James Bond and another agent are on a mission in Russia to spy on a chemical weapons facility which is being used by a terrorist cell to target British embassies all over the world; the mission does not go as planned and they are left stranded in Russia.

The game was developed by Eurocom and published by Activision for the Nintendo Wii.

[edit] Gameplay

The game is a first person shooter and includes classic FPS game elements such as destructible environments and regenerating health. The player has a variety of weapons to choose from such as submachine guns, assault rifles and sniper rifles; only three weapons can be carried at any time and the player can pick up weapons from around each level. In addition the weapons, there are also items which can be collected from around levels such as Mines and Grenades.

Each chapter of the game is set in a different location, there are six chapters which is broken down into different levels. There are a total of 14 levels for the player to complete, each mission has a different enemy count and the levels are designed for constant movement. There are some very limited stealth features that allows the player to use a sniper rifle from a distance.

Online and offline multiplayer both exist for this game; the offline mode offers a split-screen so up to four players can play in the same instance, the offline mode also offers four gamemodes with a variety of modifiers such as melee only. The online multiplayer features nine different gamemodes which are plated through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection; this multiplayer option only allows for one local player in one instance.

The multiplayer has 10 different maps to play on and allows players to play as characters from the single player or as classic characters from the Bond series. The online multiplayer also offers players a way to monitor their multiplayer statistics.

[edit] What's New

Some features have been updated in this game to make it more relevant; players now use a mobile phone to communicate with MI6, scan documents and take photos, in the original game the player used a watch. The original game had a cheat menu and the 2010 game also has a cheat menu with cheats from the original game, this menu however is available to players from the start of the game.

Occasional slowdown and quite some effort into making the controls work. Otherwise very cinematic game and a very worthwhile online mode. GoldenEye007
