Subject:   i know this sounds dumb but how do i get of a ladder

I have been playing MOH Frontline on PS2 and I keep killing myself because I can't climb up a ladder and get of at the top. If i go forward, I go down again, if I jump I fall off, if I keep going up I fall off. I have tried every combination and I know you are all saying what an idiot, but I am really stuck.

Please help this beginner.
