Subject: Worth getting a Dreamcast over?
-------------------------------------------
As the title of the thread implies, I'm wondering if this game is worth getting a Dreamcast over if I don't already have one. I have Soul Blade and Soul Calibur II (PS2) and I feel as tough I'm really missing something without the original Soul Calibur. I'm a huge fan of the series and I frequently play it in the arcades. I don't have all the money necessary to buy both the game and the system, but I can work for it. Is it worth it, considering the Dreamcast isn't really expensive but hard to find?
PS- You guys are kind of stupid, no offense, but why does it seem like everyone in this forum spells Calibur as Caliber? Just read the packaging >_>

Well.... I don't really know.
It depends what other dreamcast games you'd be likely to play. There are some other good ones...
Like Powerstone. Resident Evil, Code Veronica. Some other good ones exist, but a lot are japanese only or hard to get...

It's the only reason I still have my DC hooked up. That should say something right there.

definately! If you like consoles, dreamcast is really worth it. Dreamcast is capable of so much. You can even get it to run linux or play homebrew games without modifying the hardware! Soul Calibur is a great game. More gameplay! Keep the series coming.

Personally this game alone is a reason to go and get the Dreamcast.
-Fighting mechanics are great
-Mission Mode is so much fun. YOu can fight under different circumstances and you can unlock a lot of artwork
-Music,characters,stages ..everything looks flawless
This is definitely a Dreamcast game you can play over and over again.

I don't know why you posted in a 2 year old thread... Still, remind me, what is mission mode? I oddly don't really remember it. Is that where you just played matches with weird conditions?

Well the post before mine was posted about a year ago. I wanted to partcipate in one of my most favorite games ever so i decided to post even though the threads are old.
Yes
Mission mode is a mode where you travel to other places to fight under strange conditions. Overall it is fun and you can unlock artwork so overall it was fun and rewarding.

Oh that's right. I remember earning artwork and wishing you could win something better.

But the artwork looks very nice.
The things you had to do to get that money was incredibly fun. YOu gotta admit..Soul Calibur was memorable.

Yes, and still better than its sequels, if you ask me.
Its a pity they didnt combine the best bits of Soul Edge and Soul Calibur into a sequel instead of sticking in a lot of lame extra characters...

I agree
Soul Calibur was amazing. Soul Calibur 2 was ok but it felt too recycled......
SC3 was just horrible. So many glitches and issues its not even funny.
Namco obiously wants money. They don't care about the quality of the game (recycled exhibition performances, recycled animations, recycled japanese voice overs, and recycled music). SC2 was able to impress a lot of mainstream fans so they have no reason to spend so much time on a sequel when so many people will buy it no matter what. WHich explains why SC3 was so horrible. And SC4 looks dreadful.
I've already lost faith in the series but i still love Soul Calibur 1
Most of the new characters suck imo.
Yun-Seong replacing Hwang is a horrible idea.
Putting Cassandra in the game was unnecessary since we already have Sophitia. Raphael is just annoying.
