in rock bottom at the end of the museum instead of going into the tube to the "trench of advanced darkness", exit from the front into "downtown rock bottom"
when you get out, switch to sandy and go over to the teleport box
jump off the cliff onto the slide and use the lasso copter multiple times to fly up the slide
when you get to the top (by mr. krabs) go around the corner to the gate and enter it... since you entered from the back of the "trench of advanced darkness" there will be a spatula right in front of you:D:D:D

Thats what I did to actually get the spatula. I didnt know it was the EXIT

Go down the pathway and you'll see a Fodder and a Sleepy Time robot, so defeat them. Next to it, you'll see a platform a few yards up, with a Chuck, and the Museum. To start things off, go over to the bottom of that and press the button and a swinger will come up for later. Then, go to the left (facing the button) and then proceed to hit the buttons, defeat the robots, and go to the end of this path (you may need to Bubble Bowl and Sneak a few times). Once you've hit all of the buttons, the gate blocking the D1000 will open. This is the one near that building you saw after talking to Bubble Buddy. Go destroy it and press the button.
You have 20 seconds to use the SpongeBall to get to the next gate before it closes (if you're quick, you can run some of the way, too). Another button and SpongeBall will be there. Before doing that, backtrack to a platform to the side of the pathway. Get on it and collect the next piece of artwork. Near the artwork, you'll see a button. A swinger will rotate around a house light to another platform with a spatula. This is for later.
Now, get to the second SpongeBall. Press the button and you have six seconds to get to the end of the VERY slim pathway before it drops. Now, like most things in this level, there are two ways to do this. You can do it the harder way and SpongeBall across, or you can roll across about a quarter of the way, then quickly run and when time runs out, just double jump and grab the edge of the next platform. Easy peasy.
Now, for the next two minutes (if you do it right), you'll be Sandy after this little charade. Down the final pathway is a cannon shooting tubs at you on the pathway as you go down. You can tell where they'll land by oil stamps on the ground, so just steer clear of those. Then, go to the next platform and go up the toothbrush sticky wall to the top of the building (you can also go around and destroy the cannon, but it's not required). Change to Sandy at the bus stop.
Now, you have pressed all the buttons and activated all the swingers by playing as SpongeBob. Now, you can use those swingers as Sandy. Swing and glide across the buildings and defeat the robots until you come to the building with two Tar-Tars and a springboard. Bounce on the springboard to go up, and if you notice to the side, is that platform with the rotating swinger. Go to that platform to open Task 3.
Now, keep going around the buildings and swing on the final swinger and defeat the Chuck. Collect the spatula.

And by the way, about the people who did that to get the spatula, it took me at least forty times playing that level to actually get that was the exit.
