Subject: Need help with codes

Hi everyone! I've seen all the help for PS2 codes, such as:
1,000 shiny objects
Pause the game, then hold L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and quickly press Square, Circle(2), Square(2), Circle(2), Square. If you entered the code correctly, you will hear a sound.
10 Golden Spatulas
Pause the game, then hold L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 and quickly press Circle, Square(2), Circle(2), Square(2), Circle. If you entered the code correctly, you will hear a sound.
BUT THEY DON'T WORK! I pause the game, hold down the four buttons, hit the squares, circles as they tell me to (and yes I understand that (2) means two times) but nothing!
Can anyone PLEASE help me with this, and tell me how to do this?
What am I doing wrong?
I want more spatulas!
I want more shiny things! Help!
