In an interview with Dan Houser (president of R* games), houser said that the view distance is twice as far as before in the city and four times as far in the countryside. What are your opinions in how far the view distance should be in the sky (while flying a plane, of course)? Do you think it should be the same as it was in GTA 3 or Vice City? Discuss the view distance in SA here:

Well, whatever the mods feel like doing to this thread, I wont mind. Just thought it might be a good topic...guess I was wrong.

Hey coke_bear, do me a favor? Ignore the snippy little comments from the peanut gallery. With all the topics in this Forum, I think that a discussion on a huge upgrade in the Draw Distance is a viable topic and deserves its own thread. Oh and the term is "Draw Distance" not View distance by the way, so I edited the thread title.

MouthOff and poetsofthefall chill out with insulting member's threads. There is nothing wrong with this one. And even if there was, you could have politely provided a link to a more appropriate topic or have the courtesy of leaving the thread critique at the door.

If the whole draw distance for this game has been thoroughly improved then it seems obvious that it will be the same on the ground as in the air. If it isn't then it will be a big graphical let down and, though it doesn't really bother me, the Vice City air draw distance was a little disappointing.

I don't really care, I never spend that much time in helicopters/planes anyway.

As long as you can see as far as matters, who cares?

It's good the draw-distance will be improved, but I'd still like to see factors that affect it, such as fog/smog. And I don't mean like GTAIII and Vice City's fog, I mean to the point of zero visability, where you'd have to rely on the horizon-lever meter to know where you're going.

I dont know what good the horzion meter is, it just tells you how leveled you are with the ground, not where you are.

How can the draw distance be the same in the sky as it is on the ground? Your'e overlooking the entire landmass in the air (bird's eye view) while on the ground you can see only in 1 person perspective (worm's eye view).
By the way, thanks Chiro! I feel much better now (sniff, sniff)

I didn't say it tells you where you are, that's what the radar is for. I said it tells you where you are "going." Such as, into the ground, for example.

I see no purpose for it really.

It'd help if you couldn't see where your goin at all....So you don't plough into the sea or something
