It's been, well, years since Telltale Games announced they were developing a title based on the popular Fables comic franchise. Today the developer finally announced the official project, named The Wolf Among Us, coming to PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this summer.
Dan Conners, Telltale Games' CEO, discusses his company's strategy going in the game's development:
"Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the Fables universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players. Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks."
Details on the game itself remain scarce, but the premise involves players taking on the role of Fables character The Big Bad Wolf, also known as Bigby Wolf. Like The Walking Dead before it, The Wolf Among Us won't take place directly in the events of the comic book series itself. Rather, it will run prior to and parallel to the series itself. A side-story or expansion of the universe if you will.
Bigsby Wolf's story will involve his efforts to keep fairy tale characters like the Three Little Pigs and Mr. Toad undetected. Judging from the mature nature of the comic series, it's unlikely the game will progress so smoothly. This fable isn't much like the fairy tales we're familiar with from our childhoods.
Expect more news on Telltale Games' take on Fables, The Wolf Among Us, soon. Lets hope it's more Walking Dead than Jurassic Park.
