Xseed games has released the third official English trailer for Killer is Dead, this time focusing in on the ladies of the game. Referred to as the "Mondo Girls" after protagonist Mondo Zappa, the insinuation as I take it is that each girl is some sort of obstacle in his adventure. Either that, or just that Mondo is a ladies man, which also comes across pretty clearly in the trailer. Oh, also, the new trailer takes us to the Moon.
Yes, Mondo with his robot arm, suit, tie, samurai sword and a trusty space helmet (no other spacewear) is seen walking across the surface of the Moon in this trailer. Why Mondo ends up on the Moon is anyone's best guess, but we can probably assume there's a woman involved. Probably Scarlett with her giant hypodermic needle rocket thing.
Also interesting is the Aubrey Hepburn look-alike at the beginning of the trailer who seems to be setting Mondo on his quest. This scene, perhaps more than any other, screams noir to me -- which might be why it's my favorite yet. Hepburn asks Mondo to hunt down a man in a cleverly covered photograph and offers to pay with her wedding ring. Mondo refuses, instead asking for a kiss in payment, as that's likely more valuable than the giant diamond ring. So. Noir. Hep-toon is also the only female character not represented as some stereotypical Suda 51 sex-pot.
Killer is Dead is planned for release this August on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The Suda 51 action title is certainly lining up with the zany expectations we have of the designer, but hopefully it's a great game on top of the zaniness.
