SOUTHEND KNOCK WATFORD OUT OF THE CUP

Southend United have knocked championship side Watford out of the Capital One Cup. The match kicked off in front of just 2,775 spectators at Roots Hall. Southend started the match well with Michael Timlin hitting the post after 14 mins, Watford came close to goal on 25 mins with a shot by Almen Abdi hitting the post. But a mistake in the middle of the park by Bilel Mohsni gave Fernando Forestieri a run at goal and just the keeper to beat, Paul Smith the southend keeper had no real chance, Forestieri blasted top right corner 1-0 to Watford.

Ryan Hall back from injury had a free kick 25 yards out, The Watford defence was all over the place as Hall blasted wide. So the score 1-0 to Watford at half time. Charliecat must have given his team a good lecture at half time, As the blues came out attacking. On 75 mins Sean Clohessy had his shot deflected by Neuton then cleared off the line, Watford came close on 82 mins but Paul Smith made a fantastic save in front of the home fans. Then on 86 mins Ryan Hall had free kick 30 yards out, The shot hit the back of the Watford net, So with 4 mins to full time, Southend were back in this game.

With 30 mins extra time, Southend still pushed at Watford both teams were looking exhausted, Watford nearly scored in 105 mins Forestieri had his shot saved the keeper Paul Smith, Then into the last half of extra time Southend had one more chance infront of goal, Gavin Tomlin missed a simple tap in on 125 mins, So with the score 1-1 after extra time it was penalties. With the score 4-4 on penalties Ryan Lenoard stepped up and made it 5-4 to the blues, Then Neaton took a long run up and hit the post. Southend had beaten Watford 5-4 on penalties, But to be fair Southend played very well and now look forward to the next round.
