Fine. Your opinion is blatantly wrong because the amount of handholding was extremely profound in almost every game past Gen 1 (and maybe Gen 2.)
i disagree.

in generation 1 you get a pokemon for your own protection. everything you do in R/B/Y is completely off your own choice. beating team rocket and the gym thing.

and G/S/C you get a pokemon to do an errand to prof elm. and you just are apparently so talented that you want to leave your 5 building town to go on an adventure.

The "I'm going to be the best" thing just sort of happened. it wasn't forced on you

I said PAST Gen 1, and maybe 2. I don't remember much about 2, except for what I've played of SoulSilver, which seemed pretty hand holdy.

I'm gonna have to disagree on this one. The cast of B/W2 is properly developed, and I have no issue with their involvement. It's a stark contrast to B/W, which threw several inconsequential stalkers at you who were almost impossible to like.

The hand-holding is there, but not nearly as invasive. I, for one, didn't feel anywhere near as boxed in this time around. I happen to think there's a degree of replay value to the main game this time, too. I'd have never expected that after all these years.

There's a lot more...cutscenes in this game than in past Pokemon games I've played. Wherever I go there's Rival desperately punching people to find a Purrloin, and Team Plasma doing...well basically nothing. I'm not terribly far in the game yet, fourth badge, but I've yet to see Team Plasma do anything yet besides talk about evil things. In the past, even with B/W 1, the groups you fought did something that you saw, to make you want to combat them. Evil plan here, theft over there. But in this game it feels like I'm following Rival around to help him with his problems, while being told by everybody else that I'm the best thing since sliced bread. Being told how awesome I am by Alder is something I expected, he's a very compliment-happy character, who does a lot of cheerleading for the main character in both games. But fighting Cheran as a first gym leader and winning so easily, threw me for a loop. Though granted, the "this new pokemon trainer kid beat up everybody somehow!" is not a new concept at all, and has been in place a long time, it just feels more pronounced this time around.

I don't play Pokemon for the story, so it's not something that really bugs me, but I do find it rather odd that the world is so incredibly scripted, while not managing to have cohesive plot progression.

I chalk that up to New Plasma being Team Rocket Jr.

They just really suck. It's almost embarrassing. BUT, things do manage to pick up around the halfway point.

I was just complaining about this today. You can't take two steps without a character popping up out of nowhere interrupting your gameplay as if they were stalking you- you, this AMAZING trainer who was nobody a few hours ago. The beginning of the story is very poorly put together and I agree they basically imply you're totally incompetent in figuring anything out for yourself. Your rival is annoying and nosy as all hell, and the events that happen in each town are so fast and dull I wonder if they're actually part of the main story.

I played through and completed Black 1 but I hated everything about the storyline and avoided paying attention as much as possible. I would love to avoid this story as well but they literally do shove it down your throat. They also tried way too hard with the stadiums, parks, and "modernized" cities; I miss the good old fashioned, simple houses/gym/center/mart layout. I just want to play the damned game for what it is; I don't care about this extra scenery and side quest crap.

End rant. This is why I usually just stick to the old Pokemon games. I don't see how any Pokemon oldie who started with R/B/Y can like this very much. Even the Pokemon annoy me; one is literally a bag of garbage. Wtf. ;_;

It's not really that hard given how poorly the classics have ages. Seriously, I went to play Silver one day and was thrown by extreme culture shock. I absolutely couldn't bear to pay it and had to upgrade to Crystal. Even then, I never had any desire to finish it. ~_~

Games have to evolve with the times, basically. They wouldn't be worth the investment otherwise.
