However, the link didn't work when I posted in this thread, but when I posted the issue here, it worked again. Why didn't the link work in that thread, but now it works in here?

Link worked fine by me when I clicked on it in your original post before you deleted it, which BTW, is not a good idea if you want to address a flaw in somehting.
And I think you used a direct to message link, that linked to I think the last post in that thread, still, both worked fine.

I've found that this issue often occurs with formatted links. Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't. Why is this?

Give us some examples
castlewars. Chances are posting those that work versus those that won't will make it clear what problem you're running into.

http://www.neoseeker.com/forums/6963/t1721346-leveling-up-pokemon-early/#1I had to leave the formatting out of the post and the one I linked to so it would work.

Works 1.
Works 2.
Seems to work both ways for me.

castlewars I meant post a link in the format you were trying for so we could see how it was failing.
LinkyLinkyBoth methods I can think of to format a link seem to work fine, so unless you've got another method I don't see a problem.
What you need to do is post the exact markup you were trying to use. Do so within code tags if need be.
