Don't you just miss them? Today we have it so easy. You can have a full option file downloaded and on your game in half an hour. It's just not the same though. Back in the day you would spend hours and days and weeks and months editing. If you wanted a proper badge you had to create it by following a grid and implementing it pixel by pixel, being careful not to get one pixel wrong as you would then have to start again, but 6 hours later, after you finally got the badge you wanted, you were so proud of yourself. Or if you wanted a good file you would have to go through the hard task of uncrushing files via your Max Drive.
There was more of a community feel as well, because there was so much editing to be done, that everyone helped each other at any given chance. Now days you can just go to another forum, download what file you need and that's that. There were also so many great guides and game threads that were created. Who could forget
TVI's
Player's With Good Development Curves thread? Or
Leon RE4's
Master League Youth Development Guide? Or
Ronaldo77's
Alphabet Master League Challenge? All great threads that kept the forum busy and entertained for the entire year.
I'm not having a go at this generation's members either, because it's not your fault. In fact, PES has come a long way, and it is great that it's so easy to do things these days, it's just that back then, when it was much harder to edit etc, everyone became closer and banded together to get things done. We have the Draft League thread, and
Pro King's International League thread these days, and whilst they are a lot of fun, it's really the only thing that's holding the forum together right now. Back in the day, the ML thread would be buzzing. We would get through so many of those threads a year because people were so excited to post their team or post about a new gem they had unearthed. We don't get that anymore. Look at the ML thread right now. If I didn't bump it the other day the last post would have been on the 20th of November, almost a month ago. You would never have got that years ago.
So yeah, whilst PES has come along in leaps and bounds, it's the small, yet very important, things that I miss about both the game and the PES community back in the PES4/5/6 days. It wasn't so much about the actual people back then, because I know all of you who weren't around then would have fit right in, it was just the community was so strong and close and that's what made those days so great.
Cashis get in here because I know you will have something to say on this topic.

Yep, class poster. He took so much time and care into all of his posts. Probably was the biggest PES fan I knew back then, and there were a lot of a hardcore fans back then, including myself.

Ah Miss the good ol days of Pes 2007. Caught the end of the Pes 6 forum missed out on some quality banter.
Any kit requests?
Can't believe that was 5 years ago.

I miss the early days too, but I still enjoy the current ones - however, I'm not as active as I once was as I've got other commitments - most particular OPE.
I think the problem boils down to the fact that since PES 2008, the UK market is FIFA-territory. Some don't enjoy FIFA and don't play it, but they also don't play PES.
I think once the series progresses, the community will improve. I'm not limiting that statement for just the people on here, but PES communities everywhere.
Also, from a mod's point of view, it's not as fun modding a forum when it's not as active as it should be.

I was thinking about this too, and I can definitely see what
Highbury Highs is saying too. A forum can be limited by its subject matter, or in this case, the game in question. As PES's share in the gaming market has dwindled, it makes sense for it to lose a bit of forum activity.
At the same time, I guess it's up to each community to make the forum the best it can be, it's just we don't have the advantage of the old editing threads like we used to, and I guess that will never come back. As
Chelskiman said, now you can just download an option file all done for you in a few minutes.
A little creativity goes a long way though in the community, as
Pro King demonstrated with the International League. Agree with
Chelskiman though, it's not so much the members so much as what the game throws up for us to use.
I notice we don't have any Neo F.C. or Goal Of The Fortnight or whatever threads up at the moment, which could be something for the new year perhaps, when hopefully a few more people have the game. Other than that, it's a case of participation more than anything I think. Although, dare I say it, the rise of online gaming probably hasn't helped matters, in my opinion anyway.

I still live for the day when a football simulator will best the PS2 Pro Evo generation. Good old days indeed. :<
