Subject: What's most important in a good game?
-------------------------------------------
http://news.mmosite.com/content/q/2012-04-20/what_kind_of_games_on_earth_can_grab_players_1.shtmlquoteFor players who are fastidious about character modules, they don't want to have a shot at the game with rough graphics and ugly characters, even though the gameplay is really wonderful. In this sense, it is the most important to capture players' hearts at their first sight of the game.

Are you kidding me? Aesthetics including graphics and character design is only an added plus, which is definitely not the most important thing in a good game. They may seem nice at first, but that doesn't really affect the fun of the game. Even more, many games with good aesthetics are just Apple of Sodom, such as Crysis, Mass Effect, and Far Cry 2. In addition, sometimes excellent graphics are a double sided sword, coz players have to get a high hardware to run it.
Gameplay obviously comes first! It is the core structure of the game as a whole. If the main concept of the game doesn't work or isn't fun, it will totally ruin the game. Aesthetic will only get you so far if the gameplay is absolute shit. I won’t play any boring games even I like the way they look. And I used to have a lot of fun with some games with nice gameplay and bad graphics, such as Minecraft and Runescape.
In short, gameplay is far more important than Aesthetics. If the gameplay is good, then who the hell cares about the aesthetics.
Furthmore, below's my top 4 things that I look for in a good game.
1. Gameplay (According to what I have said above).
2. Storyline (A lot of games are very popular due to their great storyline, which makes me wanna play through the game again).
3. Aesthetics (Great graphics and art style will make a game better, but which is not the main point).
4. Sound (Without doubt, it is the least important).
What do you think is most important in a good game?

To me it is a bit different per genre, if an RPG has a really good story with good characters then I can forgive somewhat annoying gameplay. But in nearly all cases a game will put me off if the gameplay is repetitive (Final fantasy 13 for example) even if it looks all shiny. Content is another important thing for me, if I play through a game I don't want to finish it in only a few hours. This does not neccesarily make a game bad as a whole but I surely won't be eager to buy a sequel. Graphics are not all that important to me, if the menus are done well they can look like skyrim's (although that menu is console-problematic if you play on pc, bad menu port so to speak) I'd be fine with that.
I still play older games which graphics are so far behind games you see today but I still enjoy them. For me the ultimate example where a modern game gets beaten by an older game is Starcraft 2 vs Warcraft 3. The modded content on WC3 along with it's art style appealed to me so much more than SC2's. Not to mention the lack of good mods in SC2.
Put in a list:
Gameplay
Content
Graphics
I wouldn't really put sound in the list, I often change music after a while anyway (on pc). But music from Mass Effect for example definetely enhances the whole experience greatly, it just doesn't make or break a game for me though.

I agree, gameplay is first and foremost, if it feels incredibly clunky I'm more likely to drop it.
Depending on the game, Aesthetics and Story trade places for which matters more, but it's usually aesthetics matters more. It's not just graphical fidelity, it's how the game...
looks, how well it's art works. Something with no sense of aesthetics will look like a mis-matched mess of whyyyyyyy and that's never a good thing.

I think content is nearly equated with story.

Since I mostly play mmorpgs, stroyline is more important than aesthetics.
Maybe for video games, things go opposite.

For MMO's, it's the opposite for me. Story doesn't mean to much to me, because I'm there for the community moreso than the lore. Aesthetically pleasing armor and towns, stuff that looks really interesting, matters more to me.

Aye, it's true that a sharp looking game will attract more buyers but in terms of what's important, it has to be gameplay 100%. Obviously we want it all, we want the excellent gameplay, top story, sharp graphics and multitude of game modes but that's rarely the case.
My order of preference goes like this:
- Gameplay.
- Story.
- Game modes.
- Online.
- Graphics.
- Customization.
