Hopefully they do come out with an actual extension to the ending, because like the author said, it is a huge improvement, but it still could be much, much better.

I was pretty surprised to see they added a fourth ending, but then I saw it and... forget that.

wait.. the ending is free UNTIL a certain date? the ending of a *bleep*ing game will have to be paid for? quality company right there. we'll give you a shitty ending, then make you pay for a little less of a shitty ending.

Literally just finished the kill the reapers ending and it DID have the scene where they put Commander Sheppard's plaque on the wall before going to the "take a breath" scene.

^ Could've sworn Garrus hesitated and didn't put it up. Or maybe all the endings are just blurring together for me now.

All the extended endings seemed really, really cheesy to me. It really seems like disappointment.

My persona feelings are if this had been the original ending I would have thought "wow that sucked" but I wouldn't have been quite so angry as it did at least attempt to be an ending.

However! I haven't forgotten how angry the original ending makes me and this really did very little to address any of the issues. That said, it gives me enough not be angry but not enough to make me change my mind on not buying future Bioware products unless they knock it out of the park.

Yea, Tali never put it up it looked like she just squeezed it in her hands to me.

BlackScythe Knew I wasn't imagining things. Thanks for confirming.

Genuinely believe the EC would've helped the initial game. At this point, they're still nice to have, but there's the unshakable feeling of already being burned.

Nope, I did it as well, and Ashley didn't put the plaque up and instead looked up and smiled slightly.

Now, SPOILERS:

They do explain the Catalyst and the Reapers. The Catalyst says that he is an AI his creators constructed to find a solution to what they perceived to be an endless cycle of destruction between organics and synthetics, and that the creators had also already crafted the Reapers. Presumably as tools of war, or perhaps they were the synthetics they created and were warring against (hence the creation of the Catalyst), since it can be assumed that the creators were in a situation similar to Quarians and Geth (on a larger scale) and they just didn't have a Shepard to waltz in and broker peace (otherwise they wouldn't have created the Catalyst to solve a problem that didn't exist).

So, because the Catalyst was built on this flawed preconception that peace was unattainable, the Catalyst came up with the only solution he could with such limitations: use the Reapers to harvest organics in a kind of synthethis-lite, as it thought this was the only way short of complete destruction of either synthetics or organics, since he also states that no organics until Shepard's point were ready for true synthesis (not sure what constitutes being "ready", perhaps he was just guessing/lying anyways).

That's my understanding of it anyway.

at least some of the catalyst question have been answered and there is some sort of ending now but ME 3 pales in comparrison with 2 and especially 1

anyway good article couldn.'t have said it better myself: extented cut should have been much much better

Did anybody else notice Liara not putting the Shepard name plate on the memorial during the "destroy" ending? She kind of smiles, tells me she knows he is still alive?

chaotic Yeah, I remember that. I'm still pretty skeptical about the Catalyst and their explanation for the Reapers. A lot of it still relies on suspension of belief, which is something writers have to risk if they dip into the realm of the intangible or theoretical, like time travel or godhood.

In a way, the ending to ME3 reminded me of a JRPG because of how sudden it felt and how obscure the themes/explanations were. The whole game builds up in a certain way, going a specific direction, and then you get to the end, that climactic moment that we've just spend hours upon hours building up to... then WHAM, totally unexpected plot element.
