Has anyone ever used a cave or a fort as a home?
I have. I remember when I was roleplaying as a murdering solo- bandit level four vampire Khajit, and I used Embershard mine as a home and base to stay during the day light hours. It was pretty nice there, what with it having some smithing equipment, and a nice pretty waterfall. (Yes, even mass murdering vampires like to look at waterfalls every so often!)
So, has anyone ever done this?
Oh, and here is a few questions I would love to be answered, kudos to those who do

1- How long do caves/forts e.t.c. stay empty before they get "Reset" and the enemies respawn? Does the timer reset when you enter one?
2- I once found a spider lair that had a hidden vampire village in a secret passage. If anyone could remind me of what this cave is, I owe you a virtual beer.

3- Do followers attack you if you are a stage 4 vampire? I mean, if they dont, this would be a good "Get the hell away from the mob and their torches and pitchforks" tactic

Cronvagr cave, it's close to the river between Whiterun and Windhelm, past the throat of the world.
And I use rebels cairn as my home. I have the only key that locks and unlocks the door.

Using any place that is not listed
here will make your stuff eventually disappear.
This is how long stuff lasts when not put in a "Safe Place", it's either 10 days or 30 days (in-game time), depending on the specific area. Merchant-related stuff is 2 days.
So
Resilience, you may want to consider moving.

I only keep food and pelts. That cave is my hunter's character. I've got nothing to lose.

I mostly use bandit camps, like the one near the standing stones which you get the Treasure Map 1 from. Halted Stream Camp is more centraly located, though it doesn't have a forge, but I usually "Just pick a bed, and fall into it," wherever's clever. Most of my Chars don't sleep, as it's no longer necessary to level, though some do to bring on Dusk so it's easier to sneak up on Forts. As far as I can tell, most caves don't respawn, though sometimes Bandits move in randomly. I've had that happen for crypts I've started, found beyond my level, and came back for like Forelhost. They only move in as far as I'd been, and it appears to be completely random. They do the same for Helgen after about a week.
