I'm assuming everyone's seen the Paper Mario 3DS pictures already. Any thoughts on the Chain Chomp?

There's one thing I'm mostly sure of: the Chain Chomp isn't going to be an ordinary partner. If you look at any of the partners in the previous Paper Mario games, the ones that are actually common species in the Mario universe (koopas, goombas, bobombs, etc.), you'll notice that each one has some sort of special attribute that makes them special in comparison, like a hat or something. This Chain Chomp looks like any other Chain Chomp, making it the first of its kind. So what does this mean?

Well, the way I see it, there are two possibilities here:
1: The Chain Chomp is a temporary partner (kinda like the one in Link's Awakening).
2: The Chain Chomp is the only partner.

Personally, I don't like either of these choices, but they seem to be the most likely outcomes.

Also, I'm pretty sure it won't talk.

It'll likely talk in some kind of "My name is X, Chomp Chomp!" dialect.

If he's the first partner, he'll need to talk because the first one always explains the basic controls. Besides, has there ever been a Paper Mario partner who didn't talk?

Well, that brings me back to my previous point. Has there ever been a Paper Mario partner who doesn't have any kind of accessory to separate them from any other kinds of their species? Goombario doesn't look like the other goombas, Koops doesn't look like the other koopas, Bow doesn't look like the other Boos, etc.

Plus, there's never been a Chain Chomp in the Paper Mario games who could talk.

All I'm saying is, compared to other partners, it looks out of the ordinary. Chances are, the partner system is going to be out of the ordinary.

Keep in mind, this isn't what I'm hoping from the game, this is what I'm pretty sure is going to happen. Personally, I'm hoping for a 'temporary partner' kind of thing, but I think the whole 'one partner throughout the entire game' deal is more likely.

Yeah, I also hope neither will happen, but unfortunately, they're probably the most likely outcomes.

In the first paper mario the koopa lodt its shell
the chain chomp probably lost one of its clothes and is probably looking for it.

Not likely. Kooper still had distinct differences, even without his shell. Plus, he doesn't join you until you get it back.

Keep in mind, the screenshots we've seen so far are most likely from the game's very early stages of development. It's likely the Chain-Chomp is just a placeholder for partners or the unfinished design of a Chain-Chomp partner. It's still too early to make assumptions.

I want to bring Koops back, but make breakdancing (especially the spinning headstand) his regular move instead of a Stylish Move.

Breakdance Power (1FP): Koops spins on his hands (just like he did as a Stylish Move for Power Shell and Shell Slam) to increase his attack power by 2.

Pretty sure the crown is going to be the first partner (and I'm guessing it shapeshifts into the other creatures). Where did you hear that Toad is the first partner? I've found nothing of the sort stating that.

Yep I think the crown shapeshifts.

Well, you could be able to summon temporary partners using cards or something of that kind?
